Buy EJ16OPM back off the insurance company and re-build it, should be doable and quite a challenge It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Sorry to hear/see what's happened, but glad you appear to have escaped relatively intact.
And we have yet another 'what do I do next' thread.
I'm already completely undecided what to do when my D4 has to go, but am sort of considering having to defect from the LR brand.
But I think in your situation needing a replacement quickly, I'd probably end up with a D5, because lets face it I wouldn't be able to see the outside when I'm driving it.
Thanks Nasher, I'm afraid the D5 just won't work for me, the extra foot hanging over the rear axle makes the departure angle unworkable even if I could live without the split boot 1978 Series 3 88 Military Green (Gone)

That's another factor that I hadn't even considered in my ramblings. Probably because it wouldn't really be an issue for me personally.
How different are they?
I have the LR diagram for the D3/4 somewhere but not the D5.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

I found the D5 too nerve wracking off-road. Due to the shape of the bonnet, you can’t see/place the front end corners as you can in other LR vehicles.
Yes, there’s a camera system, but once the cameras are covered in mud they become worthless.
To me the D5, with its high waistline and small glass areas. always felt like being in a raised estate car.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I was anti the D5, and couldn't decide what to replace the D4 with. I was waiting for the Rivian, but that won't be anytime soon. I went and tried the D5 again recently and actually, I was impressed with it the second time around, so have just decided to take the plunge..

I think you already know the answer, get another D4, there is nothing else out there that does the job. You you are buying a car that someone else has maintained, but there's still no getting past that the D4 is the one car for the job.
I'm back in my what is now my 4 the disco Iggy/Ieuan

Wow, and I thought I was the only one that hates them.
I've taken some stick on here in the past for suggesting they are horrid bits of bolt on tat, so have kept my thoughts to myself recently.
But now I know I have at least one Ally.................Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
