bye bye LR
so a friend that i'd introduced to LR with MIL'S D3 4 years ago or so came by for a coffee today....
but he wasn't driving a D3 OR D4... i asked what happened as he's been an LR fan for years and owned several FL and Defeners before the D3..
his lease was up on the D3 and he handed that back a month ago a happy chappy, 55 plate SE..
he looked at D4 but the prices were way out there and there was no SE, he didn't want HSE, but he did want leather etc etc.. as they were all expensive options on an XS he's gone elsewhere.
so he's now driving a lux ed volvo XC90...........and in his own words " i didn't want to go elsewhere but LR have left such a big hole in the range i had no choice,,,, I'm not paying range rover prices for a discovery.. the volov is actually quite nice, not an old mans car at all,,, "
i wonder how many other loyal fans they have lost....one wife.......livid

Hello. I have looked at some older volvos and they are a nice well built car. I am still holding out for a 05 Discovery 3 but I think Mavis and I will need to borrow from the biscuit tin. Does anyone have a dog guard in the Discovery 3?. Thanks.
Tis a fact sure enough, I guess the FL2 is not man enough to fill the gap.

If you have an xs d4 you get more spec than the volvo. You get leather, sat nav and a load of goodies. They are about 6K above the volvo. Also I think you can get a volvo on contract hire for £329+vat a month. This is less than I pay for mine. I think the purse strings have alot to do with some peoples moans about the D4 they are a tad dear. I am honest it will be a while before mine arrives but I not going to moan about the missing SE. Also drive a volvo then drive a d4 need I say anymore.

Dennis.....maybe if you can ,get more bookings in the club so you can fund an increase in your budget.
Discovery onwership is a fantasic place and something volvo drivers can only dream about, what other motor delivers awfull reliability, ford fiesta trim parts and and depreciation as steep as a german stuka dive bomber
New and exiting activities for the over 60s could help the budget.
Naked egg and spoon races, an introduction to breakdancing, and spunk ya pension on Tjs all go down well in surrey, im sure these could be a real hit up north.
Hope that helps "you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

EXACTLY the point i was making, although this guy does have fairly deep pockets, he was compairing what he paid for the D3 and it just doesn't add up.. and he got a totr volvo lux edition for MORE than 10k less than the eq d4 with half the spec...
and the volvo IS a fairly nice drive too... much as i love the D3 the volvo is a good drive...one wife.......livid

I am a first time LR owner I got the D4 because it seemed to go upmarket compared to the D3. So while LR is loosing customers because of the price shift I also believe they are gaining customers because of the better D4 productDiscovery 4 SE Long range fuel tank Kaymar Rear Bar.

so in fact they are not gaining more users at all, the loss and gains cancel each other out, once again a company so focussed on getting new customers that they neglect the ones they already have,
my only point was where is the SE spec?...... one wife.......livid

I am in the same position current XS D3 is perfect with the bits I want on it. To get the same level of goodies would have to have pay shed loads more money. Love the D3 but will not be getting another and will be downsizing to FL2 when the lease comes up.

Volvo XC90 discounts are huge at the moment - £9k+ off the basic Active model, a bit more for the models higher up the range, don't know if this is a temporary situation but must reflect that the Volvo is getting nearer to the end of its design life

I agree that the D4 is missing the SE spec. I know a D3 owner who wants a D4 in SE spec. i don't think he'd go anywhere else other than the LR brand, but he's not going to change until there is an SE spec.D3 HSE MY05 Auto
