Relaxed - it will def go lower than 20 C even in 34 C weather. I've got mine set on lowest temp and blowing from the face vents, and I've had to take my hands of the steering wheel to blow on them to warm them up!!
Thankyou for that info i suspected that it should perform better
i just wondered if there were any design figures for this A/C
my wife works in refigeration/A/C and she tells me that most equipment

Perhaps you should ask your wife to show you how it works

The 34oC you can see on the display in the dash is the outside temperature. That won't change no matter what you do to the A\C.
If you think that the air being blown is nowhere near cold enough then ask your dealer to arrange for you to have the 'enhancement'...this should give you the most up to date software for the HEVAC system.
i have just got the car back on tuesday with all the latest software
and i do realise the temp display is the outside temp

It was just a thought I think, relaxed, that we are coming to the conclusion that this requires a visitd to the dealers workshop.

strange..... mine is normally set in the 18 - 20 degree range, tried it at the lowest setting tonight on the way home and it didn't go to full fan / icicles on the windows mode like I remember it doing pre - enhancement, in fact, the fan slowed down so much I had to turn the radio volume down
i'll have a play on a longer run over the weekend

I have found that having the dials all the way anti clockwise on the blue mark is not as cold as leaving it on 16.
I found the same as TFC last night. Put it right down to 16 and it didn't get as cold as when it is usually on 18 - 19.Zermatt silver 06 reg.
Gone but not forgotten !!!

The D3 has the best AC of any car I've had. In France recently, with temps between 32-34 every day, I could only drive with it set to 18 or 19, and even then the passengers in the back thought ot was too cold! It also seems to cool down the car very quickly when it's been parked up for a few hours - good job in this weather

Charles

Well no matter what anyone says, the D3 A/C is definately a whole lot better than the wife's Alfa 156.
When I picked my D3 up towards the end of our summer and the settings were on 20°C and Auto. I found after about 2 km that it was too bloody cold on my face so had to ensure the vents are always pointed straight back in the car.
Of further interest, I read, (in the manual) that the air is most efficient when all vents are open. In essence, closing off any rear vents to 'cool' the front is not effective.
That's my 2 bobs worth.LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

I had similar issues last yaer - diagnosed as dodgy O ring in the system
Mine really bites cold now - by far best A/C I have ever had
Suggest you take back to dealer rather than mess around with itNow Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

Mine the same... has been since the HEVAC update some time ago. Set to Cold (blue) it is not as cool as 18-21 range. Have to turn it up a notch sometimes as it gets too cold... and still colder than when set to Cold (blue)
I reckon this might need explanation by an insider or knowledgeable dealer eh
