Camera buying advice from any gurus?

Guys and gals, need some input please.

I have a dslr camera, but for holidays I want a good but cheap compact, needs to be pocket sized and about 100 quid.

Any suggestions, price can increase but just want a pocket camera for snap shots. Needs to be blend of price, image quality and speed etc.

Any comments appreciated as going on holiday end of next week so will be buying in the coming days.

Cheers. Steve

Others might have different ideas but I would chop my DSLR in and go for a mirrorless camera so you can keep your lenses and have the best of both worlds with a compact size camera!!

Why not use your phone? Most phone cameras these days are pretty impressive.

I wanted a pocket sized camera. Dslr is pretty beyond what I need now anyway.
Phone is staying at home, that way I can’t contact the outside world and the outside world can’t contact me.

Suppose I could just block all my contacts.

Just put the phone in to "airplane mode". It'll stop being a phone but the camera will work. And you can still use the phone in an emergency. Thumbs Up

I picked up a Canon G16 a couple of years ago now and it gives excellent results, loads of features if you want and of course full auto snap modes.
Since getting this my DSLR is rarely out of the case Thumbs Up

Maybe air plane mode on the phone is the way to go, and as you say emergencies etc.

I love my dslr but its painfully large to cart around on holiday, it spends most of its time in a cupboard.

I did have a small compact before but went swimming with it in my pocket on a prev holiday. I say holiday, i mean wedding honeymoon, lost all the photos, needless to say the missus wasn't best pleased!

I did look at the panasonic, are they any good do you know? Missed that they were water proof. Thats a bonus.

I may have a look at that in store.

I have an EOS 1d mk4 which is a fantastic camera, but I do find I grab my iPhone more and more for snaps. 2 seconds with the phone and you can get pictures like this which I’m amazed at from a phone.

I used to take pictures with a D80 and a D7000 - now it’s mostly just iPhone that’s taking the pictures...

Same. D7100 mostly comes out for airshows these days. You can take much better pictures with it, but the best camera is the one you’ve got with you, which is your phone 99% of the time!

Went and had a look today, on others advice I think I’ll stick the iPhone on airplane mode and take that.

Thanks guys.
