Hello,
i have just joined the forum and what a great source of information it is. I am currently looking at getting a discovery 4, probably an XS to replace my freelander 2. Does anybody have the surround cameras system and what is the feedback on their performance and use.

They do what they say. I think they would be good if you did a lot of off roading, good for hooking up the caravan. But they are a lot of money for not much else, got mine thrown in as part of the deal, think it was £100 for cameras and heated steering wheel MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange
MY15 D4 HSE Kaikoura Stone
MY12 D4 HSE Nara Bronze Sold and gone
MY11 D4 HSE Stornaway Grey Sold and gone

Tow bar, full length roof bars, side steps, tow bar storage unit, surround camers.

Hi
I have the cameras on mine and IMHO they are quite expensive for limited functionality in general use.
However -
Having the full camera option does enable some additional functionality whilst reversing.
The reversing view shows the predicted direction based upon the steering wheel position and also shows object proximity bars. (see photos in my gallery) Neither of these features are enabled AFAIK with the "standard" reversing camera.
Tow assist views may be useful if you don't tow very often or have to operate in a confined space.
The passenger side view is sometimes useful when looking out for a high kerb, hidden post etc. - however you can only see the front wheel Irritatingly there is no way to switch the mirror mounted entry lamps on manually so there is no side illumination at night which would actually make the side cameras useful in the dark.
I've yet to see the point of the front cameras unless you are operating in a very! tight space. They are not, as hoped, much use for seeing traffic approacing at junctions as they are mounted in the wrong place
So overall, 5 out 10 for effort - but could be so much better with a bit of addiitonal thought
Richard
ps
I am just about to fit sidesteps to my car and am curious to know if they will block the view from the passenger side camera to the front wheel - anyone know the answer?
