Camping chair advice.
So my old faithful Outwell folding camping chair has finally given up after 12 years of service.
What are people sitting in these days.
I will probably regret asking as it will cost me lots.
Ostentatious, lafuma any others?
Cheers

I too had Outwell for many years, but recently the stitching went and they were thrown away. I bought an Oztent King Goanna chair off a fellow forum member, it is very comfortable, and has some nice touches. Twin bottle and phone holders, not in the arms but hanging to each side, and a handy zip compartment in the back.
So pleased I bought another one for the wife.

I've got Oztent chairs too. They are the Jet Tent branded ones. Very comfortable but not cheap at £140 a pair. They are quite bulky when folded too but quality is unquestionable.

Our chairs have just been changed out after 22 years and we opted for the Oztent chairs.
These are very strong but are quite heavy, carry bags are strong and I think we will get on with them well

I've had Lafuma recliners for 10 years, very comfortable, replacement elastics are available and easy to fit, but they are quite heavy. I would buy them again.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

The are so compact that you can just leave them in the car without taking up any room (tucked behind 2nd row seat). They are slightly more upright than a lot of camping chairs which is much better for when you're not just lounging around (e.g. Eating). They are easily transportable from camp to the beach, fishing, etc. And they are comfy.
You can also get a smart carry bag for each one:

Agree, got a couple too, absolutely cracking chair .... if you have the space to keep them.
If something more compact is required, I got one of these.
Has nowhere near the same comfort as the Lafuma, [it's a differnt type of chair] but it is practical with its attached tray and its foldability.

Off to the Lakes camping tomorrow with mine. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Chub fishing chair. Bit of minor maintenance needed last year but apart from that 10 years of sterling service.

Size vs Comfort
To put a slightly different slant on it, I have often found there is some "give and take" when it comes to the "packed size" vs "comfort" equation. Comfy chairs tend to be mahoosive when packed!
Last year I came across these rather nifty little fold up chairs that pack to a tiny size whilst being pretty comfortable to boot. I can even squeeze my 6 ft 16 stone frame into one for a wee while!
The first picture shows SWMBO demonstrating one of them, the second shows two of them wrapped in their covers and stored in my mantec upper lugga thingy.
So these days, I travel with 3x bulky "throne" chairs and 2x "guest chairs"
They are £14.99 on ebay and I would highly recommend them for occassional use

Thanks gents.
The oztent king Kokoda is very similar to my old chairs but with what looks like a lot more comfy seat fabric.
Sadly a premium price tag.
On a side note Prof; how quick and easy is it to remove the Manteca upper load lugged if you need to use the rear seats?
Thanks

four screws and it is out, but if the third row passengers are under 5' 6" then it doesn't need to be removed.D3 07 SE - still going strong

Camping chair advice.
If you are able to get down to and get up from ground level, a more comfortable option than the Walkstool would be the Crazy Creek chair, which gives substantial back support. I've spent many hundreds of hours in such chairs while rock climbing (or, more correctly, while belaying my wife) and I can attest that the chairs are comfortable and packable.
(BTW, you can find the Crazy Creek chairs in variations that are rather more sedate than the linked psychedelic example. The chairs that I've used for the past twenty years are a modest purple.)
If you have physical limitations that would prevent you from using the Crazy Creek option or you don't want to get down on the ground and you don't need back support for extended outings, the Walkstool does look good. I've used a chair like that while cooking in camp.

believe it or not Asda do some directors chairs for £20 which ive found to be really comfortable.
also Mountain Warehouse do some decent directors chairs again for £20
im 6'2' with an oversized butt and find them all really comfortable however the Asda one are slightly higher which makes it easier for us tall folk to get in and out of
