Camping in the Discovery3!
My friend recently bought a VW Transporter and plans to kit the back out with a bed etc, so I thought I would see what I could do with my Disco. I came across the Khyam tent which connects to the back of the disco and liked the look of it! Putting all the seats down flat in the rear I managed to comfortably get a double air bed in the rear. One thing I need to get is the extension panel for the Khyam tent to get a bit more space but overall I was pretty impressed! Sleeping in the Disco was fine although in the morning when the sun came up it got a bit warm so a shield for the front of the car would be a good idea to deflect the sun(rear has blacked out windows). Ive posted a few pictures with everything set up on the Friday night look forward to many camping weekends this summer!

I've done it without a tent attached.
Not the best pic...
Will probably do it again and set up a tarp attached to roof rails as an awning/shelter.

They come in handy at wet events for shelter/cooking too.

Slept in the back of mine at a recent Land Rover Club TYRO event.
Roll mat down one side of my cargo divider and under the dog guard, plenty long enough and very comfortable actually. Still able to keep all my kit down one side of the boot space and have 3 usable seats in the car.

That's a good set up you have there....
I've kipped a few times in the D3 when weather has taken a turn for the worse and pitching the tent is difficult.
More leg room and more comfortable than my old D2
SP Mods so far:
New wheel winch
Instrument upgrade (clock on dash)
D4 fascia + Garmin nuvi
LED side light, interior etc
New FL2 rear wheel arch seals
Parrot MKi9200 hands free kit
I used this at ice fest ( Caranex) but have now gone back to a roof tent.The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.

I would imagine that one of the main benefits to having the boot open is getting the extra space to lie down in with the lower tailgate dropped.
When I camped in mine at Silverstone recently I only just fitted in diagonally!
is a roof tent bonkers money?
do they fix to a roof rack, or into the roof rail system?formerly Disco3Ben

I'm 6 foot and have plenty enough room without having to stick my legs out, even with a 40 litre fridge

I had all the seats flat and the airbed fitted perfect with the tailgate closed for during the night plenty length to lie down.
im pretty sure you would have to have a roof rack like the solid ones maybe ? im not to sure. It would make sense to have a solid surface for lying on.
