Can D4 EPB be setup to apply automatically |
|
My D3 is setup to automatically apply the parking brake when I remove the key. I find this useful as it ensures that mechanism is getting regularly exercised, I can't find any setting on the 'keyless' D4 to have it automatically apply - is there way of having it come on when 'P' is selected or when the engine is turned off or otherwise. Yes, but you need an IID tool to do it. I think the setting is called "key out apply" and works on my eight-speed rotary gear selector model when I switch the engine off in drive. The hand brake is set as the dial turns to park.

Thanks - good info and yes I've now got it to work, although as you say the gear selector must be left in 'D' prior to switching off the engine for it to work. Jim

After the usual screeching issue with the epb on the D3 when I had it, I started leaving it off and just using P to hold it.
I’ve since done that on my first MY11 D4 and also my current MY14 D4.
However, when I came to wire brush & paint the callipers last year, I found out to my amazement the epb applies itself.
In doing the job, when jacked up (& chocked) I’d leave it in N and initially be able to turn the hub.
Then after a few minutes it wouldn’t turn and that’s when I found out it automatically applies itself.
I would then have to stretch into the cab, put the ignition on, release the epb, then all was fine for the next few minutes, then start this procedure all over again.
Don’t know if this is just on mine or on all models. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I haven't tried leaving it in 'N' and switching off on mine but I do know that if it is left in 'P' and the engine switched off it doesn't automatically apply the EPB. However as mjom89 pointed out when it is left in 'D' and engine switched off it does work automatically.
It may be the case that if the selector is left in any position other than 'P' before the engine is switched off it automatically applies the EPB. I must try that when I'm out in the car next. Jim

..... and likewise, maybe my epb is still off when in P ???
Maybe that it's just applying itself in N ???
