Can I fit a grease nipple to 4wd shaft?

Hi , I took down my 4wd shaft this evening after hearing jeep while driving resembling a journey on a train! Sure enough the rubber support bearing was half cut, so I set it up in vice and filled in the crack with tec 7. This should be set by tomorrow . I find the uni joint behind the rubber support bearing a tad stiff which I believe started the demise of the rubber so my question is, can I drill the uni joint and fit a grease nipple? and give it say 3-4 grease gun strokes, this is a calculation that the grease doesn't rupture the seals and let the grease out but give it enough to prolong the life of the unit ?? Anybody tried this ?

Just observations - not from experience I'm afraid.

To drill it you need one bore in for the nipple to be fitted then one down the centre of each of the cross to get the grease where it should be. Therefore you'll have to remove the UJ to do the job.

Do you think it'll be re-useable? If you're taking it out anyway it might be better to simply replace??

Sorry - not much help - but might be food for thought Thumbs Up
