Re: Can you really re-program an LR3 to stay in access mode? |

I didnt like the idea of him tinkering with the computer so i declined. Is this possible??
Yes, there is an electronics package that can reset the base ride height of normal mode. Don't know if it can lock it in access mode with speed disregard, though.
Please don't ask me for referral because I don't have personal experience with it and there's kind of a history here that I don't want to get caught up in...

In short, if you want a 4x4 where you can play the pimp lowrider, get one with springs, not a state of the art adaptive air-suspended one. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

The suspension of a RR P38 can be programmed at any height. The RR had several heights; Access, Highway, Normal and Offroad. Any of there heights could be calibrated / adjusted.
I haven't looked into this with a D3, but if you can calibrate the air suspension (in other words, adjust the height so that the car is in the correct position), it seems to me that you should be able to adjust the height to any number (within limits ofcourse).

Exactly. The D3 stores the calibrated height of each wheel sensor. This is the target height for a "normal", level D3 at each wheel. The EAS will seek to obtain the corresponding sensor value when leveling the vehicle. Changing these values changes the "normal" ride height.

LAKV8 - a word of advice. Next time you are out for a drive hold the height button in access mode until the car bongs at you. It is now locked in access mode. If you don't exceed 20mph it will stay there. Now try driving the length of the road (or over a speed hump). I'm betting you won't like the ride..... Disco 5 HSE Lux

I guess keeping it in access mode would be OK for the "Southend Cruise" though ...

Thats basically why i wanna have it done for cruises on normal flat roads with the option of raising it if required.
i went to this place were this guy was getting it done on his D3. he couldnt lock it in access mode, apparently thats impossible but he could lower the normal ride by lowering each wheels ride height setting. All he had was a laptop with what he claims to be 5 thousand pounds of LR software and a cable. If i could get hold of the software and cable i could just do it myself. . i do have an computer science degree, how hard could it be
Any idea anyone where i could get hold of the relevant cable and software.
Thanks

@Lakv8: You need the IDS system plus a VCM .... Cost about US$ 1500 in China.
... I know because I use one of these (and I blew up one yesterday).

22 inch wheels locked in access mode is my personal idea of hell.
And are you sure that it won't rub?

Travelling the other day though, I managed to get the D3 to lower to it's speed setting and then dropped back to the 85- 90 and because you are travelling on autoroutes it felt a lot better than the high (normal setting) it's just a shame that to get the D3 to lower the speed is to high for the UK motorways
