First off, I'm a Toyota fan and have little/no liking of Landrover Twisted Evil .
I did however get rather excited when first hearing about the new D3. As Kenso says above, this is an all new vehicle with nothing in common with Disco's of the past. Unfortunately several major issues have all but turned me off. Believe me, I wanted to be convinced Sad . If however, you are a D3 owner, easliy offended by criticism, stop reading Very Happy

It's funny how Toyota and Nissan die hards, have an opinion about the new Discovery 3, but when you ask what was thier first opions on their first ride in a new Disco, they normally admit they have'nt been in one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi
have driven jap cars/jeeps for years and yes they are reliable and it does what it says on the tin
but i must say from having got a disco3 would find it hard to go back to the jap jeeps
would not have bought a landrover before i took a drive in the disco3
it feels and drives like a well designed vechicle and it by far a nicer vechicle to drive than
any toyota
only problem i have is that they are getting more common on the roads
i hope they do not get as common as the land cruiser

I tested Cruisers, Shoguns, Pathfinders and none have the feel or soul of a Disco....I found myself saying "what would life be like without Land Rover"......hence the D3D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

When I bought it came down to value for money. LC 100: Same price, fifteen year old tecnology no cruise control, steel wheels, cloth seats, no climate control etc.........................
Overheard a couple of Toyota/Nissan types who had test driven a D3. Said his cruiser handled like a barge after the D3.

Same for me. Had a toyota van, very reliable - screwed my back with CRAP seats and CRAP suspension the dastard

Shoosh! GEEEZ, CAN'T you guys keep a secret?
If everybody knows about the newer LR vehicles then the wait will be longer!! AND really do you want THOSE toyoda/nissen mob in 'the club'!??
I also, had a Toyota 80 series wagon (until it was stolen in 1999) and in the process of trying to find a replacement looked at a Prado, base model 100 series (new then) and TD5.
The 100 series although my preferred choice (based on my experience with the 80) was too expensive with NO 'extras' (you know, ABS, airbags, central locking, airconditioning, etc) those minor things
The landrover dealer (Black forrest in Adelaide) kept his appointment time (1000am) for the test drive and said that he was there until 5:30PM and just asked me to return it before then with a full tank. He let the CAR SELL itself.
The toyota dealer kept me waiting an HOUR and then didn't have the car I wanted to test drive and had to 'borrow' the sales managers one and then HE drove it to a nearby nature reserve before letting me drive
Needless to say with we didn't get the prado (more to do with the dealer I guess than the car) BUT the landrover did a good job of selling itself on a 5-6 hour test drive AND the salesman WAS very accomodating to a few extras I wanted. So after almost 7 years I now have a D3 and although I looked at the 100 series again, I decided within 5 minutes NOT to get one as they STILL had the VERY OLD HD1 in line 6 diesel in them (only now have they releaased a more modern common rail diesel). They are also VERY expensive for what you get (what Caverd3 said).
So 6/12 and 6000Km I have no problems or complaints regards
