Can she swim?

I have heard that the RAI on the D4 will be water tight Whistle anyone else heard the same?

So my thinking is ..... will it be possible to fit the D4 kit to a D3( the D4 is supposedly having a back plate mod to make it water tight) lets keep them crossed Thumbs Up

Although I am aware that the wading depth is about the top of the wheel rims, it would be nice to cross the river on the way home Thumbs Up

oh and if im wrong about this don't shoot me Big Cry

Would need the fuse box next to the battery sealing up (assuming it is still there on the D4) to avoid the electrics flooding and shutting everything down Confused

It does state in LROI Mag May 09 that the D4 has Quote"Better waterproofing of the vulnerable components"
can a D3's fuse box be waterproofed?
and what else would need looking at to waterproof a D3's vulnerable bits?

I believe the backplate you refer to is actually the EPB backplate, which alledgedly has been waterproofed to stop the drum section filling up with mud and crud, and thereby hopefully reducing the amount of screamers etc - we can but hope.

According to a well known sponsor of this site, it is retrofitable Mr. Green

I heard that the D4 has two air intakes one on each wing. Don't know if that's true or not.

Starter motor, aircon compressor/pulley and auxilliary belts/tnesioners are all susceptible to water damage..... allegedly.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I was speaking to a mate who does alot of the engine development for Jag, and he said that the jags do have 2 air intakes and 2 filters, one each side, which has caused him a lot problems, something to do with the venturi effect (what ever that is), so as the 3.0 TDV6 is the same engine with 2 turbo's and not a cut down version like the 2.7 it may not be a fake after all.
He did also say that the 2.7 did suffer from inlet dreathing problems.

It was only a passing comment so maybe true on the jag but not on the disco4.

LRO said the same thing - two intakes for extra air.

So two raised air intakes Shocked

I based my response on something I'd read on this forum already, I'll take a look and see if I can find it again.

Quite technical and I don't see where the manufacturers could have a problem with it apart from not getting enough air into the engine... so it must be that.

Coming to think of it, the inlets of the XK and FFRR are a kind of plates pointing outwards to the rear of the car. So air will be diverted *from* the car, this maybe causes too little air intake.

But that's guessing.

Wiljo
