A Multimeter is cheaper and gives more functionality, but you do need to be able to get to the connectors

A multimeter may be cheaper and have other uses but these types of tools will tell you where the break is in the cable which is very handy in a modern car.

I bought a power probe one a few years back and never had any luck with it, mainly I think as the looms simply had to many cables in them and the tool got confused.

I used a small cable with crocodile clips on both ends to make it more accurate , just clipping to one end of the sensor when I got an indication clipped the wire on the various wires and helped a lot pin it down
Then was able to use a DMM to establish accurate continuity of that particular wire at each end

As with a lot of test equipment understanding what it is capable of and it's limitations is the key to getting the best out of it
I don't have the particular tool shown in the OP but have several similar testers that use depending on the type of fault I am looking for.
At the price I can't see any reason why the Cuantivo tester wouldn't be a useful piece of kit for someone doing occasional fault finding"Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag'em down to your level. It's cheaper".

Clamp meters are very good with quite a few different types available and again if you know how to use them and get the best out of them they can be invaluable for identifying faults"Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag'em down to your level. It's cheaper".

Looks to similar to the trace tone senders used in telephone cable testing.
But not quite as comprehensive.Series 1 V8
Series 2 Hibrid V8
Discovery 3 HSE V8
