Can’t unlock Disco 3 with flat battery
Good morning folks.
I have a Disco 3 (56) plate which has been parked up since the beginning of lockdown (April) I have just gone out to put the charger on to start charging but obviously can’t open on the remote fob, I have taken the cover off the passengers side door to open manually with the key but it won’t unlock it. I am thinking at some point maybe the ignition barrel was changed so it’s a different key now.
Yes I should have disconnected the battery I KNOW but didn’t.
Any suggestions on how I can get the bonnet open to at leased get the charger on, I’ve had a quick look but doesn’t look easy.
Are there any tricks out there to either open the bonnet or get in the car without breaking a window.
Cheers

The least painful way is to plug a battery conditioner into your towing electrics (if you have them).

Thanks David so basically that will push charge back up the the battery then. I have towing electrics and actually have a trailer that works the other way to charge the battery on that. I guess if I pull that apart and work out which feeds it is I could make one up with a spare plug I have in the workshop or worst case buy one of those.
Cheers Brad

Hello Brad
If you have 7 pin white/grey cap or 13 pin electrcis, the pne of these adapters attached to a battery conditioner will recharge your battery, I have a 13 pin adapter which connects to my Ctek, it works a treat, just make sure not to store the adapter in your car if you make/buy one.David

Have you tried plugging your trailer into the car, maybe the trailer battery might flow back to the car to help it open??David

I would by that’s the same, it’s a fire training trailer which has a battery to open the solenoids but not used that for months so that’s flat too but I’m going to charge that and see. Only other option is open that up and see if I can work out which feeds it is and make one up with a spare plug.

Had similar with key not working on passenger lock. Presumed that the ignition lock had been changed at some point as when i tried to unlock it felt like the key casing was going to break. Just had new keys and had the blade from the old one. Had nothing to lose so tried with just the blade and some grips and it opened. May be worth trying before investing in changing.
