Car Vibrating

Has anybody experienced thier disco vibrating violently above 50mph, told LR at last service they said it was balancing. I don't think it is balancing because the only thing that does'nt vibrate is the steering wheel.
It does'nt happen all the time i could go weeks without it happening the it couls do it a couple times a week.

Never experienced this. But if you find out the cause and a way to replcate it, could you let my wife know...?
The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

I got a really bad vibe start from the back of the car when the EPB stuck. It must have not come fully off, as I drove the car, but must have been rubbing, as after about 10miles the vibration started. As I was on the motorway, I'd been travelling fairly quickly, so when I stopped to investigate the rumbling niose, I'd got one very hot nearside rear wheel.

The main culprit would probably be the wheel balancing if it's speed related

If you're 100% sure that it's not this, then the EPB binding on could be a candidate - as Al says, you'd need to check the rear wheel temps after a good run and see if one is noticeably hotter than the other.

The only other thing that springs to mind is the harmonic damper weights under the car (two big steel swingy things just before the rear bumper) - do you have a towbar fitted? It could be that the wires are fouling one of the weights - this will cause a noticeable vibration/wallowing at higher speeds.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up

I'd get the epb checked - or check to see if there's a brake smell\warm wheels after you stop. Mine's stuck a couple of times & was similar, except the vibration got progressively worse till I stopped.

Hi,

I had this problem just last week. Vibration around about 50mph - thought that wheels were suddenly out of balance, or wheel nuts were loose. Got to my destination (15 miles), and front offside (right) wheel was very hot. Drove cautiously to the garage and was told the brake caliper was sticking. This was replaced and front brake pads. Problem solved. Not surprisingly, fuel consumption fell to 25mpg - it's usually around 27.

Cheers,

Rob

Get it checked pronto!!!!

Worst case scenario is EPB and rear braking system grenading and chucking you off the road - trust me it can happen as I found out @ 70mph Shocked

Hello everybody,

I tried to find the right topic for one of my Disco's problems and it seems that this is the right one.... I experience a very strong vibrating in the whole body / chassis. I went to the service and they said it was the rear cardan/joint. I changed this part and the vibrating was still there and got worse and worse.
I went to another authorized service and they said it would be the auto gear box. Of course they said they cannot repair it, only exchange it for about 4.500,- EUR.

Few days ago I contacted an official ZF service and they said it would be the hydraulic torque converter inside the gear box. The repair kit would cost about 600,- EUR and they could fix it.

Please let me know if anybody has experienced something similar because I would like to know if this is something that can be really fixed or I would have to change the whole gear box. Shocked

Thanks

try a double gearbox flush first, it may cost 400E and be a waste of money - but then it might solve the problem and save you wasting 4500Euros !!

I had a similar fault to this, I managed to narrow it down a bit.
Only at 50mph, did it through all the gear ranges did not do it when free rolling,

The dealer tracked it to an unbalanced rear drive shaft Thumbs Up

yep it sounds like a EPB prob, you may also find that the h/brake shoe lining may have come off or is loose causing a binding
