Caravan to France 2025

Booked the boat to France for next years holiday and taking the ‘van for the first time. Planning a 2 or 3 stop trip with one site in Brittany and then 1 or 2 further down, probably in the Vendee region. Any recommendations for sites down there? Kids like a good pool (ideally swim shorts allowed for me!)

England

Depends how far south in the vendee you want to go. How big is your caravan? There are loads of site quite close to the coast but on most of these the pitches are quite small (80sq mtr) which isn’t really big enough for a twin axle plus awning. Move back inland, even just a few miles and you find sites with much bigger pitches. We’ve used a nice Dutch site near Coex ( just in from St Giles) and a fully serviced pitch is 300 sq. mtr. There’s quite a few near lake Junay.

You are spoilt for choice along the vendee coast

Plus, fyi, you need to carry a warning triangle and hi-viz vests for all occupants in the car, and regards towing, if your GTW is over 3500 kg ( which is highly likely if you are towing with a Disco) then max speed on motorway is 90 kph.

Plus get some good breakdown/ recovery cover.

I'd suggest looking on Eurocamps for sites you like the look of then searching for the site and booking direct. We stayed at a site in Brittany, Ty Nadan, which was great. It had pools but also a great hight ropes and zip wire course, highly recommend these, they also have kayaking and paddle boarding. We stayed with Eurocamps but I looked and you can book direct for pitches.

Thanks for the input.
@al cope we have driven to France the last few years but this is our first year taking our ‘van. It’s a single axle albeit a larger 6 berth one. For Brittany I think we are going to go back to Domaine des Ormes as we really liked it this year.

Going to look at a few sites in Vendee on Eurocamps as you suggest @pwheeldon

Do any other caravanners who head to the continent take a reverse polarity lead?

I have a couple of short leads made up as changeover adapters, but only really found reverse polarity an issue on older sites still using 2pin plugs. Majority of French sites we’ve been on over the past 5 or so years had 16A blue sockets and these have all been wired correctly (I still carry a tester and check)
