Caravan servicing,How many do their owm ?

As the title says how many service their own caravans ? as I see it it's not rocket science. Dealers want about £200.00 plus parts independant £140.00 plus parts but what would they do that I who is handy with the spanners would not be able to do ? Confused

Check your insurance some require that you have them serviced by registered operators and then of course there is the Gas Safe side of things.

Fit a gas leak detector and a carbon monoxide sensor, check the flame is blue not orange, check tyres, wheel bearings, brakes, damp, grease corner stabilisers, jobs done Thumbs Up
You probably already know more about the condition of the ‘van than anybody and maintenance is all part of the joy of owning a caravan.

All things being equal, as a buyer I would be looking for yearly checks, suggests the owner has looked after it. But there comes an age with caravans when it make little difference and some people probably dont even think about it.

Mine is 14 years old, I purchased it from new and was built to my specifications, only time it has been back to main agent was at 6 years old for a recall on the sliding sun roof, all other maintenance has been done by myself, piece of cake compared to a Disco Laughing

You will probably find caravan insurance has a general condition similar to:-

"The property insured must be maintained in sound condition and all reasonable precautions taken to prevent and minimise any claims"

Same on the boats and the important thing is you have to prove you have done it, so need invoices for parts or pics etc.

I would imagine servicing a caravan must be well within the capabilities of your average carvan user?

I reckon servicing is the wrong word, more like a visual check.

Never get the gas serviced on the boats, Im sure some do but the vast majority will not, so long as hose is in date and you have a bubble tester in the line all is good.
