Hello everybody.
Is it possible to use Castrol Edge 0/30 instead of 5/30 as recommended from Land Rover. Got a TDV6 from 2005.

This is quite useful to understand the markings better

Very good article !
I understand, that the second number is the important number. It tells how thick the oil is. But why not using an oil with the lowest "first-number", as long as the second number just is correct. Calle - disguised as adult.

In general - I do not trust dealers (even the authorised ones) If they sell Castrol they will put castrol everywhere even if castrol doesnot have a proper specification for a particular application - had my own experience (not LR related).
Engine specs says:
Engine oil, SAE 5W-30 - Use 5W/30 oil to specification FORD WSS-M2C-913B meeting ACEA B1/B3 2013 D4 TDV6 S; Baltic Blue; IID Tool BT
2007 D3 TDV6 SE, Auto; club Faultmate MSV2

There is no advantage of using 5w over 0w
This is related to cold starting ( resistance of the oil to flow while cold ) The lower the number the better for cold starting.
I f i am correct 5w will still flows up to -20 and 0w will flow up to -40 The w stands for winter( cold starting)
Hope this helps you ?
yes it will be fine !!

If you are in warranty then put in what the OEM specs dictate ...if you are out of warranty and you want to do your own thing ....then you can in your engine if you like .....who cares what the specs say
Just don't moan about it afterwards 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
