Now and then my base cd player just freezes and wont turn off, no function will work until i turn off and restart the engine, then it restarts itself and works perfectly.
Has this happened to anyone else, i know its not a big deal, just a pain in the ***. '05 Discovery TDV6 S+ Commercial, Zambezi Silver, Ebony Black Cloth.

Yup its one of the minor problems, you need to send it back to the dealers and get the software fix, thats what I did and have had no probs. since 2004 Discovery 3 - gone
2006 Discovery 3 - gone
2008 Discovery 3 GS - gone
2011 Freelander LE Special Edition - gone

Me too, I get freeze ups occasionaly. There is an update for the system available, but the dealers don't like it because it takes quite a long time plugged into the diagnostic system to do the update, and this seems to cause problems in the workshop as they sometimes they only have one of the diagnostic systems.

Happened to me a few times in the first couple of weeks of ownership.
Touch wood- never happened since. I'm now religious about waiting for the boing before starting though, which might have some effect.
It's just annoying- have to stop then re-start the engine to unfreeze the CD player. If you just switch the car off the frozen stereo will stay on (and presumably drain the battery). Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue

Any more details on this? My car is going to the dealers for a suspension issue shortly, and I've asked them to sort this stereo problem at the same time. Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue

I often have these crashes.....nothing workes....but usually it help just turning the power off on the hesdunite.
But my last freez was more disturbing:
I was using the navigation en the cd player was on.
Suddenly it just froze with only the LR logo showing in the display and the cd player still playing, but nothoing worked. No volum up or down, no power on and off.
I had to turn off the egnintion for 20 minutes then it worked again...?
exept now the cd player playes the disks all the time...so when i listen to the radi I can hear it changing cd`s!
My might need a new unite?

pers1, do you have entertainment controls in the back? Try using these to change the source, could be one of them is selected to cd, there is a software upgrade which rectifies this I believe. Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE

pers1, I had exactly the same scenario with my previous Disco3, with just the Land Rover Logo on the main screen and the discs playing if I was listening to the radio. I told my dealer about it and they said that it was a known problem and that they would need to upgrade the infotainment software. After they had done this I didnt have this problem again. 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Correct. When the doors are unlocked, the Land Rover oval comes up on the sat nav screen.
