Changing from right to left hand driving headlights

Do I need to completely change the headlamps if permanently on the continent?

I am aware of the lever inside which appears to do very little.

Eternally grateful for any thoughts.

Never had a problem with the beam changeover on my trips to Europe either.
Have got the procedure down to a fine art just before boarding the ferry Smile Instead of fiddling round in the dark trying to find the levers and removing/ replacing the cover, I just pop the lamps out.
Every now & again I check to see that the lamp securing sliders are free to move and grease them up.

As switching them to LHD mode simply removes the up kick aimed at kerb, you're still legal on UK roads in that mode so do it at leisure before heading for ferry/tunnel Very Happy

Hi, It might be ok for a short while. However if you re register your car you will require the MOT for that country, which it will not pass.

If you have FB, you could do a search to see if there are any pages left for what was British Forces Germany. There used to be a roaring trade in second hand headlights, and LR was always a popular brand. Ebay will also have plenty of them.

Our Germany footprint isn't what it was, but I think there's still a presence.

If I am having to change them completely.

Which upgrade is good for the D3 without the need of replacing the wings?

The D3 xenons give the best light output with good quality bulbs.

I have a D3 car and a D4 commercial both have xenons fitted and the D4 lights are very poor compared to the D3

And?

There are different rules regarding MOT, APK, TUV and like wise...
For instance in Germany, if your motor was never fitted (On VIN) with Xenons, but you try to reregistrer it with, it can be a pain atleast So to speak, till impossible... in The Netherlands that will be no problem on the other hand... Belgium is also not very easy, but maybe other country’s are...

So it depends on where you are going...

There can also be another issue.... some country’s have “value added tax” like we in The Netherlands.
You have to pay it after importing (registrer) a motor vehicle from another country...
I do not mean VAT, but another tax.. even if you own the vehicle a very long time... (can be different for expats however)

So be sure they don’t in the country where you going to reside....

If they do, it can be cheaper to buy a motor in that specific country..
 Best regards
Harold
