I think I'll delay spending on the battery for now and see if a charger gets the current one back to more like original charge retention … plus we have 4 cars here and not all get used daily so a charger other than the 40 year old "simple2 charger in the garage would be sensible anyway.
Not exactly flush for cash at the mo so whilst CTEK looks nice, i'd like to avoid the outlay if poss … so has anyone got any other suggestions that don't make same indent in the bank account ?
Halfords "Smart Charger Plus" does 6A and with tradecard comes in under £50. Anyone tried it ?

The CTEK MSX 5.0 is 5A. It's currently £80 at Halfords, not sure if your trade card brings that down to below the Amazon price of £68.It has a 5yr warranty and lots of good reviews and I've seen several people on here say they have one.Gary

Ooooh... The lidl one is an idea! Still leave me money to look at the AGM battery option if indeed the current yuasa one is giving up despite built-in indicator saying it's good.
Can't find it on the website at the mo but they do have a box of heatshrink tubes on offer so will swing by anyway to see if they have a charger in store..

Had one of these for a couple of years, works a treat and for the price can't fault it

Hi Narpy, the issue from thread you linked about "batch issues" does seem to have been a problem for them … "Detailing World" forum says same thing going back to 2013!
Does seem to be works/doesn't work though so if I do get one it will be obvious if it's a duff one.

If the two Lidl chargers in our family are anything to go by then you would be better off getting a CTEK.
Buy cheap, buy twice MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand
My Ctek MXS7 has just managed to recover a very expensive motorcycle battery that I had foolishly let get drained by the clock on the bike.
It had been flat for a couple of months as I forgot to disconnect it.
It took a weekend of restarting the charger after each error was thrown up that it had failed the "hold charge" test. It sits quite happy now after a couple of reconditioning cycles holding a full charge and passing all the Ctek tests. Perseverance paid off in the end!
Paid for itself this week and is 2 years old now, has had quite a hard life charging just about any battery I own!! 8)------------------------------

It's entirely your call but I found the cheapo chargers totally useless, batch issue or not, both the ones I had were total crap. I wont now buy anything electrical from Lidl after that experience.Mods:

Got to say my two Lidl/Aldi 3.8 amp versions are still working fine, obviously being 3.8 amp they are not the fastest, but for 15 quid what do you expect?
My mate whos a bit anal when it comes to electrics and a proper clever bunny recommended them to me.
Just checked purchase dates, one is 3 yrs old and the other is just over 6 years old, cant argue with that?
I could be worng but I think all electrical goods from Aldi/Lidl carry a 3yr warranty, just like Land rover products
