cheap fix for broken tail gate cable end

Hi, just a note to say that i fixed the broken 90 degree end piece on the cable with a electrical connector like this. https://www.bunnings.com.au/narva-electric...p_p4330743 . I just removed the plastic from one of the block and used it.

One changes the screw for longer reach and then fit the terminal block to the actuator end using the existing holes in the actuator, the screws passing through them into the terminal block. The broken end of the cable slips in the terminal block, tighten the two screws and it fixed. i used thread locker and filed some flats on the broken metal sleeve to help provide increased shear force.

seemed to work well and cost less than.

I did similar in the 90s when ex girlfriends sister Citroen 2CV broke its accelerator cable! Got a connector from a Taxi rank nearby, stripped it put it on the end of the cable. I think it was still there a few years later!

Whilst on the theme. I can only open upper tailgate by someone pressing the 2 lock/unlock buttons on the dash and someone else literally touching the upper tailgate release. I can just put my finger on the release with no pressure and it opens. Is it likely to be an actuator problem or is it a known fault with the release button and that needs replacing?

Hi, it's most likely the switch, it was in my case. You can get a Ford Focus one that's the same.

So in the end I bought a new battery and all is well including the tailgate opening! I hadn't thought of that.
Still got the Fortd Focus part being delivered Monday Laughing
