Why go for cheap and nasty when you can get a proper job from Mr Bowyer for similar money. Also he it there to back it up with parts & service.

If it helps you there is nothing wrong with a "cheap" winch as there all made in China now due to production costs even Warn. Shocked
There all getting better quality with every year now and Champion is a winch that's good value for money as are Goodwinch sold by Mr Boyer the only difference with his is that Mr Bowyer has them made for him by a company in China called KING ONE (some of the people that made come up winchs) BUT,There made to his requirements mainly the casings that are machined to fit his design of seal for the winch motor helping keep it water proof .The external parts like the in/out lever and drum supports are stainless steel they even come with a water proof solenoid pack
I ran one on a vehicle for a while and was quite impressed with it... there great value for money Thumbs Up

PS I don't work for him Honest!

Slightly off topic

When you fit a winch at the front, do you have runners underneath the vehicle to allow you to pull yourself out of mud etc?

Also with all of these winches, it is possible to have them hidden or almost hidden rather than sticking out like the G4 challenge ones?

I've driven G4 challenge ones a couple of time and notice that the winch affects the approach angle quite a bit.

Yes you can fit hidden winches. ISTR that CFB had some photo's of how to fit them in his gallery.

And yes the G4 ones do reduce the approch angles as I have found out a few times now Big Cry

Wiggs that's the sort of thing I fancy. I did know you had a hidden winch as I know it was the only thing that Jerry Thurston could find of interest about all our cars!

Can you use it to get yourself out of trouble ie pull the car out backwards with runners underneath, I'm assuming that it isn't possible from the picture?

Well when I finally get round to doing a winch, I'll be in touch to get that from you Ray, and probably the Jerry can holders when I sort out a tunisia trip for families!

I saw the wheel protector when we at Salisbury recently when stapldm got a puncture. Nice solid bit of kit.

As Ray said , yes in an emergency , would be worth a try ..but if you were knee deep in mud , would you wanna crawl around trying to get the winch under the car Shocked
