I have to say each to his own. Who cares what other peoples choice is. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder which means that taste is entirely subjective, What I like doesn't have to be liked by anyone but me. I care not a jot what others think of my choices because no one knows what the reasons are for my choice. I can see that the RRV may be perfect for some and not for others. It's why they make so many different cars, so they can pick and choose the best for them. My personal choice has been for the D3/4 but I understand they are becoming a bit long in the tooth. They are an amazing truck and do so much so well. If they weren't so heavy it would be a simpler task to bring them up to date. Sadly that wasn't the case and the 5 was born or is it hatched. The looks aren't to everyone's taste but the ability remains top drawer. I have to agree with JC regarding the rear seats which were designed too low to allow the backs to drop automatically. With the D3/4 you had to drop the seat base but the 5 has already dropped them in favour of convenience rather than comfort. It's one of the things that put me off tbh. As much as JC is a kn0b of the highest order, he's not wrong here.

Ukraine 2015 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto Aintree GreenDiscovery 4

Saw one at the Royal Cornwall Show last week and the killer for me was the lip into the boot space which makes it near impossible to get a decent sized dog cage in there. Shame because it looked pretty good.

- no cage : blanket and seperation on rear seats..

Full size spare eliminates the lip but creates a step when the seats are folded.

The Velar has been updated and LR has been penny pinching, adaptive dynamics now an option also air suspension now an option on the V6 models, previously standard.

I just have load retention net, stops the dog from taking over the driving and easy to take down if a large load is to be carried.

I was really really impressed with the velar, fantastic ride and handling. Makes my RRS feel both crashy and wallowy at the same time. The massage seats were pretty good too. I need to try a bike in the back of the velar, but if it fits then it's going on the shopping list for a couple of years time.

According to a mate in the trade, the d5 styling is keeping d4 values high Smile

How old is your RRS ? Is it the previous model ? I have a D3 and had al bushings and triangles,
etc etc replaced : too much play from wear... Drives better then a new RR Autobiography SDV8 now.. Whistle

Not a chance - it is what I do, training and trialling gundogs. I have six goldens and have a custom built Lintran cage for my D4 (would never ever have dogs in a car without a proper cage). The best offer the saleman could come up with was a FFRR but I doubt even the extended length one would have the same capacity as the D4 ....even if I could afford it. Laughing

Well, it was hard to believe for me too...

I drove :
- F-Pace 2L diesel prestige. Roadholdign qualities and driving good. So direct but liveless steering, no bumpy or bouncy ride ;

- XF V6 s [diesel] . Drives as a dead dodo. No engine thrills, not eager/fast. Useless ;

- RR Autobiography SDV8. Well, massage seats are nice. But the seat and back are bulging like you sit
on s skippyball. Tend to slide off every turn. Steering like a battleship like "your-wish-is-my-command",
but with a bleeding timelag between steering and actually taking a bend.. Engine is on paper mighty..
But you have to trash it to do anything. Sompy throttle like its elastic. If they'd give me one I would
sell it and buy a spare gearbox and engine for my D3. Keep the rest of the cash to pay for repairs for
the next eon;

- RRS SDV6 . This is a NICE car. This is actually better then my D3. It steers direct, hangs to the
throttle, no bouncing or floating/sickning sensation while driving.. This is the ONLY car that can tempt
me to spend cash on ever..

- Discovery Sport. This car surprised me. I thought it was utter garbage. But its not too bad actually.
Its far from the league of the real stuff, but as a daily driver, sitting in commute congestion, its OK.
Steering is good. Autobox is no comparison to 8-gear ZF. Its hesitant and a bit clonky, a different
class. But as I said, OK for a comfortable ride to work, with a sort of commanding view...
But I'd never buy one unless its dead cheap. Dressed up it comes into RRS area. I'd buy a 2 yrs old RRS instead of a new DS..

Or if I don't have enough [ most likely ], an ex demo F-Pace... Mr. Green

Fortunately, I don’t need the load carrying capability that I used to and I’ve only the one dog, so the FF has worked for me. While the load capacity is down, it does at least have a proper tailgate, although the jump in and out of the back is higher and Ben now needs a ramp, although the loading height is still usefully less than the ‘5.

Unfortunately, nothing can compete with the ‘4 for outright space, practical shape and tailgate design. It really seems like there’s just nothing else out there Sad

The current Transit’s not a bad looking motor at all, especially the recent facelift Thumbs Up

Hasn’t got quite the sense of occasion of travelling in a D4 or a FF though Wink
