Clicking noise from offside rear |
|
Took my manual MY06 D3 on the Wayfarer last week as part of a recce for a 4x4 Response Wales event and started to notice a bit of a squeak from the offside rear - particularly when the wheel was going over rocks etc.
I took the vehicle to my local guy and we got it over the pit and determined that it was probably a suspension bush but couldnt identify which one so he has ordered all four.
On the event on Friday afternoon I noticed that there was a metallic clicking coming I think from the same corner - frequency increased with speed so seems to be drivetrain. It’s intermittent and needless to say doesn’t happen when I try and get someone to walk alongside the vehicle to try and identify source.
Any suggestions as to source and whether these two symptoms are connected?
Any help or pointers would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

OK Cheers. - that sounds like an easy fix - I will go and take a look. I’ve booked to take it onto his 4 poster at 1pm so will be handy if I can avoid wasting his time.

Update - we got it on the lift and noticed that the ABS sensor lead had come adrift from it's clip and was close to the back of the rim. There was a shiny witness on the leading edge of the balance weights on the inside of the rim and so looks as if that was probably the cause.
Will listen carefully whilst driving over the next week or two to see if the problem has been resolved. Still have to get it back in the New Year to change the bushes.
Thanks for the help

Update - we replaced the lower rear offside suspension bush this week and the suspension squeak seems to have gone away - the bush was in a pretty sorry state! However, went on a long trip to London yesterday and whilst there noticed that the 'clacking' noise has come back - sounds like something on a rotating shaft catching on something else - metallic - is intermittent and noticeable when accelerating at low speed seems to stop when I depress the clutch or take the foot off the gas. No feel of vibration or anything through the steering or gearstick. The sound definitely seems to be coming from the rear and probably offside.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
