| Clutch actuator stuck anyone? |

2 faults showing on the IID:
Transfer case: fault code P186D - 00 (2f). Clutch Actuator stuck
Body control: U0403-68 (OB) (Invalid data received from transfer case control module)
Also on ignition cycle :Transmission fault low range green light flashing.
I have replaced the brake light switch and ruled out rear brake light bulbs and battery.
So I am looking at replacing the Solenoid on the transfer case, or the sensor assembly or the electric motor assembly.
This is a hard fault, ie happens each time on ignition cycle
Anyone any ideas?

Hi
I also have (Body control: U0403-68 (OB) (Invalid data received from transfer case control module)) on my IID.
Mine isn't showing any lights on the dash and my transfer case appears to be doing what it should. I have Hi and Low range. The drive also goes where it's supposed to in slippery conditions. Because of this I've just ignored the fault the IID flagged for now.

Calibrating the clutches and position sensor? err no not yet, not sure how to do this, the IID says read instructions first, so I thought I had better find some instructions on how to do this!

OK calibrated the position easy enough, but calibrating the clutch failed (E9)

Sounds like I'll have to get the spanners out now and change the electric motor and solenoid unless anyone has any other ideas?

Check the motor circuit for a blown fuse
Remove the motor from the box, and see if the motor moves between hi/low, and see if the box internals can be rotated with pliers or a spanner (taking care not to damage the shaft) My D3 Build Thread

Turns out it was a poor connection on the transfer box sensor unit, this caused the transfer case to go out of sync. So fixed the connection then re calibrated and all is fine.
Thanks to Disco Mikey, Robbie and anyone else who replied, also thanks to the IID unit ! very useful in tracking down faults like this.

Hi Nodge, you may well have the same problem, if you look at the transfer case electric motor, directly above is the sensor unit. The connection to the sensor was loose in my case, I used a couple of cable ties to hold it together. No faults showing now, but I did have the same fault code as you before. I just wanted to share my recent experience with the fault code P186D - Clutch Actuator stuck (intermittent). Using my Nanocom Evo I was able to read the P186D code months ago, but was able to clear it and didn't see it again for a while.
I had my truck into the shop so they could adjust the height sensors because the truck was leaning to the left. Fortunately I had removed my Johnson Rods, and put my street tires on because when they took it out for a test drive the P186D fault came back and the truck dropped to the bump stops. If I would have had my 32's on at the time I'd also be replacing wheel liners.
Anyway, the fault couldn't be cleared this time and it turns out the locking e-diff motor actuator was going bad and had a dead spot in the motor and it wouldn't activate, so $2K USD later, I'm back on the road again. My Asfir diff guard was so bent up and sprung that they couldn't get it back on without crushing the exhaust pipes, so I had it straightened out by a local blacksmith (my brother) and will attempt to put it back on this weekend. 1998 Discovery LSE - Gold, 249,000+ miles, completely stock

I forgot to update this last year. The fault code that I was getting disappeared after I disconnected and reconnected the electrical connector at the TB actuator. It was obviously a bad connection as after I cleared the fault, it didn't return. I've covered over 10K miles since then using the L/H range almost daily without the code retuning. Freelander SE 2005 Auto.
