Clutch advice
Advice/thoughts needed.
Twice in the last 10 days I’ve had the clutch slip, with the revs up and then the gear selector display lagging, the reversing lights not working and the parking brake fault on dashboard.
Both times was able to recalibrate the gear selection with the reverse, 1,2, 3, 4 etc technique and all fully functional again.
Is the time up for a new clutch?
Just to add it’s a manual with an unreliable history and 216k on the clock. Small oil leak apparent from somewhere high up on the driver side side gearbox. Poss around the breather pipe.Ex D3 TDV6 2.7 Nov 2004

My car is now on 122k miles, same clutch since 85k, but not slipping at the moment? I can't work out what's going on. If the friction plate was worn, it would slip all the time, and be getting worse. But it doesn't.
I towed the tintent to Devon and back in August, without one slip.
I'm inclined to think it's more to do with the hydraulics than the actual clutch?
I bought a LUK kit ready to do the job, but while it's not slipping I'm going to leave it.Richard

Just had my clutch, DMF and slave changed on mine at 82,300 miles due to exactly the same problem. My clutch was slipping at high speed when passing vehicles, I am due to tow this weekend and did not want to risk it going "bang"

There was a (lot of) software updates early in the life of the D3, as part of the enhacement program
I have seen a few slip through, and need the updates done, which causes the same issue of loosing gear memory etc My D3 Build Thread

Mine has the leak from the breather up behind the engine
Why would it do this, I’m going to replace the pipe as I’ve seen on another post but why is it doing it

The breather consist of short piece of rubber hose that attaches to the pipe that goes up the back of the engine. The hose perishes hence the leak. Get 2 metres of 8 mm I/D fuel hose and replace the old arrangement. Lead the hose down the L/H side in the engine bay next to the brake reservoir. Then onto the pipe on top of the gearbox. Fixed.Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

I am aware of the small rubber elbow perishing
But as I and the op state the leak is from somewhere up the back of the engine not the box so I think for some reason it is chucking oil out of the exit of the breather but I can not see where it ends

Will replacing it and re-routing/lengthening it stop it discharging ?

Can only suggest that the gearbox has been seriously over filled at some point. Rather than making the oil level the top of the filler plug some idiot decided to have it a measured fill. Wish JLR would employ some engineers for a change!
I fitted the replacement breather hose and it terminates about the level of the top of the engine. So far no problems.
As an aside have you considered that the breather for the transfer box comes up the rear of the engine also. Never heard of this breather throwing out oil but it’s a possibility.
Some where on here there is a picture of both pipes showing their position. Body of of course.Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

Mmm. All a bit worrying.
I’ve asked a local independent to have a look at it.
Has anyone got any experience of Mid-Engineering Wantage?
