do your research first. They snap very easily and there are several alternative methods.
1. The resistor in the previous post
2. remote to start the coolant heater 15 mins before you drive off
If removing GPs
1. Run it on premium fuel for a few tanks to get rid of soot build up
2. try and additive to remove soot
3. use a low torque rattle gun to get the plugs out. research the max torque setting

I had the same problem when buying my disco 3 four years ago.
It would need 2-3 turns before starting on cold.
Recently, my independent LR mechanic recommended I try Volkswagen diesel engine additive cleaner. I tried this on half a tank and also combined it with a full bottle of Diptane. I drove a motorway for 300 miles.
Incredibly, my vehicle started on first turn from cold for the very first time today. I don't know whether it's the Volkswagen diesel cleaner or Diptane or a combination of both on half a tank followed by motorway driving for several hours but I'm hoping the results will last. It's a disco 3 registered in 2005.
I don't work for any company and have no conflict of interest with Volkswagen it Diptane.
