Although I don’t use Command Shift very often, I sometimes do when towing so that hill climbs can be anticipated. However, if we’re trundling along in D and in top gear, if I flick the -ve paddle it always drops two gears (into D6), so I end up flicking that and almost simultaneously flick the +ve paddle so that it only drops into D7. It only does it under those circumstances. If I’m in say D6 it will drop into D5.
Is this normal?
Thanks.

Yes it is normal to drop two gears when in eighth. If you are in sport mode it will drop three gears if it’s in eighth. MY14 TDV6

Thanks to you both. 8th to 5th in Sport mode - I can visualise pistons smashing through the bonnet (or at least another snapped crankshaft)!

I don't have the luxury of flappy paddles but why not try hitting the + paddle ? ... my logic would be that if car is assuming you want to drop 2 gears simply by going into command shift, then giving a + might tell it to do "default + 1".

If I'm towing a heavy load on the open road and can see a steep hill I put her into sport mode, because she normally drops a few cogs and it keeps the revs up a bit.

We’ve just driven down to the south of France towing the caravan. In most cases, dropping down just one year to 7th was sufficient to keep the revs in the sweet spot, so a quick flick of the -ve paddle immediately followed by a quick flick of the +ve paddle just dropped the one gear. If in 8th, flicking the +ve paddle wouldn’t do anything (I don’t think).
Question answered, thanks.

Doing that will keep the box in 8th, but you will then be in command shift mode, then use the -ve paddle once to drop one gear to 7th. MY14 TDV6
