Sounds like you guys are suffering from similar wiring / ECU issues mine suffered from for a while, and I had 2 compressors to try and fix it (after number 1 actually blew catasthophically).
It was finally diagnosed and fixed, and it is all down to loose wires in the multiplug that connects to the suspension ECU. This was after 5 visits to the dealer! It causes a make & break fault, hence the errors, and also affects when the ECU calls the pump to run, hence mimiking failure of the pump.
This explanation of your symptoms is ever more likey if your D3's are 05' or early 06' builds.
