Conversion to Springs - any good?

So I've just finished swapping the broken air suspension out for coils on my D3. I know it won't be as good but how good is it? Here's a fairly comprehensive video on the whole process for those who might be interested.

i was big advocate of coil sprung D3/4 while back but TBH well maintained EAS is much better on and off road with its ability to modify the clearance and with extra tools you might even increase those numbers to unstuck the vehicle and very quickly return back to std
used to run KingSprings for years but unlike EAS they do not level out when loaded more and car tends to sit too low for over-landing unless one installed really progressive coils making car very uncomfortable

Wasn’t there some comments quite a while back that if your D3 is a 7 seater that it was never type approved in the UK/EU for running on springs, only the 5 seater was on springs.

If that info was correct then you’d have an illegal model so not sure how you’d stand on insurance.

Might be worth checking out.

Well done on the conversion, but never understood why people do it and lose the capability and function. Confused

I’ve only driven a factory ‘coiler’, never a conversion.

The very first D3 I drove was the demonstrator from a main dealer. It was low spec. and manual. I loved it. It felt a little agricultural, which all Land Rovers did back in 2005, even the FFRR.

Then I drove an auto HSE and was blown away by how much better it was and knew I’d have to buy one.

I can understand why springs would be preferable if you were planning serious overland expeditions. Although would you want a D3/4 for that anyway? I’d be worried about the crank going.

I did a fair bit of tough off-roading in my D3, so put a lot of stress on the suspension and only ever had one slightly leaking airbag, which wasn’t an expensive thing to replace.
