What coolant for D4?

Hi Folks,

D4 is low in coolant and I would like to top it up with the orange stuff.

What coolant does the old girl take that I can buy of the shelf rather than go direct to L.R.

Thanks

STC50530 is extended life coolant OAT type (organic additive technology)
Landrover buy the texaco product DELO XLC & repackage it.

But any orange OAT type coolant should be compatible.

The normal mix in the car should be 50%

regards
Steve

I bought some of this recently to top up.

Next time I'll buy the concentrate and I'll have this handy bottle to mix it in and keep in the boot Thumbs Up

Anyone know if your supposed to use distilled water with the concentrate or will normal tap water do?

You’re supposed to use distilled water but anecdotally most people won’t bother… Whistle

The quality of water does matter as it can contribute to corrosion, deposits, etc. in the cooling system.

Myself, I’ve used local tap water and GM DexCool 50/50. Thumbs Up

At 50/50 mix, your water would have to be horrendous to cause corrosion issues.

Indeed, that’s why it’s mostly a non-issue but there are purists (har har) that use distilled. I guess that in some places on the planet the water might be quite hard (containing a lot of calcium and magnesium)

Sorry for bumping this...

I'm about to change the coolant expansion tank as the warning is playing up. It's an 8 year old car and it's had a few owners so I figured I'd shell out and change/flush the coolant while I do it to save faffing with clamping things off, then I know it's done!

I'm still confused about what coolant to buy. I thought coolant was coolant! I tried googling the LR spec and get a bunch of Ford pages saying is discontinued. Some people say orange goes pink, or red, and not to mix. It seems like a minefield...

At the risk of sounding like a moron (I am usually quite handy) what stuff do I have to get from EuroCarParts or whatever to put in the tank! Orange or Pink? Premix or concentrate?

Red. Assuming following the almost-a-standard colour scheme.

Regardless, it should say OAT.

Thanks dude.

And people talk about 50/50... If I have premixed, prediluted ready to go stuff, do people still water it down? Or is the 50/50 just for the concentrate?

If you buy concentrate you can (should) mix it with water so it’ll be 50/50.

If you buy premix - DO NOT DILUTE IT FURTHER

Thumbs Up
