COOPER WEATHERMASTER WINTER TYRES |
|
Can one of you tyre experts out there explain why two versions of the same tyre have different letters after them even though both 4X4 Winter Tyres:
Cooper Weather Master WSC
255/60 R19 109 T
4x4 road tyres Winter
Cooper Weather Master WSC
255/55 R20 110 T XL
4x4 road tyres Winter
In other words why no XL on the 19" the description is identical and if 4X4 must be XL.

Would you say that 109 "1030" KG was suitable for a D3?
....
The minimum weight rating in the UK is 111 per tyre, while in Australia a lower limit of 109 applies (WIKI)

I’ve just had Duratrac’s put on my 19 inch HSE wheels and they’re 111 load rating (convinced that’s what I saw, might have to dig the torch out and go check now!).

111 is correct uk minimum I believe unless you live in Australia where its 109 but I would have thought the heat made load worse?

Interestingly the all D4's are 109 not 111 I am not sure if D3 & D4 are approximately the same weight but I would have thought so?
The price of the Cooper Weather Master WSC 255/60 R19 109 T is only £103 and in my opinion totally suitable weight wise (even fully loaded) but the regs say 111 for D3 for some daft reason.
Popular "Factory" sizes are priced up due to demand by the manufacturers or retailers.

Lol! That never entered my head, of course it is. I can’t remember the last time i owned anything with less than a Y rating. And oddly, I have more fun in the disco off road and low speed than I do in my cars/motorbike.

I think its just one of those tyre things.
If you look at D3 spec tyres a 18 inch 60 profile on a 8 inch rim is rated at 112 whereas the 17 inch rim on 7inch wide wheel and 19 on a 8 inch wide rim is rated at 111
Perhaps Landrover only recommend tyres that are in production when a new model comes out that exceed their minrequirements
Usually a lower profile tyre has a lower load rating which probably explains diff between D3 and D4 as 20 inch rims were not a standard fitment to D3.
I have just removed Pirrelli scorpions 255 50 20 tyres rated 109 and fitted Coopers WSC 255 55 20 rated at 110, but the Pirrellis even after 15k have a lot stiffer sidewalls than the Coopers. D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

same for D4 in load rating differences 112 for 18inch 111 for 19 inch 109 for 20 inch
Quote:In other words why no XL on the 19" the description is identical and if 4X4 must be XL.
Xl denotes that more reinforcement structures are incorporated into tyre so the 19 inch version would appear to be an incorrect fitment to a D4 or D3 D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

^ That was my thinking yet its the same tyre as the 255/50 20 version (to look at anyway) and is marketed as a 4X4 tyre.
Its also worth noting the 255/60 19 tyre has a lot more sidewall...

Just noticed that 20" Range Rover Vogue tyre are also 109....
Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme S Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme S 255/50 R20 109V XL , mit Felgenschutzleiste (FSL)
255/50 R20 109V XL
So any standard Range Rover wheels/tyres on a Discovery 3/4 will not meet the "111" Discovery standard..... (There must be loads of D3/4 owners running Range Rover Wheels)
Range Rover Sport Wheels/Tyres will also be under the 110/111 limit yet they are even shown as suitable in the D3 Wheel options in the WIKI...
