Copenhagen - anyone know best places?

Hi folks

SWMBO has tasked me with booking a city break (4 - 5 days) in Copenhagen for us and our grown up kids. I know nothing about the place so I thought I'd ask the collective for any views.

Obviously I can Google as well as anyone else, but really I'm hoping that someone might know the city well enough to recommend best districts to stay, things to see and do, and also places to avoid.

Want safe, lively, cool. Plan to use public transport. Anywhere near water / rivers / canals is an added bonus.

Someone has suggested Christianshavn district as a good start...?

Anyway - thanks for any assistance or suggestions.

we did this last October - stayed near the meat packing district in a hotel (Copenhagen Island Hotel) on the waterfront. The meatpacking district has bars and restraunts, but it is a bit of a way out of the city center. (not too far from the Carlsberg Brewery - for the tour Thumbs Up ) You can walk right into town along the waterfront but it is a bit of a jaunt, or use the train or the waterbus.

Pretty much all of copenhagen seemed safe, we never saw anything untoward going on. There are millions of folks on bikes (and I do mean millions) - most hotels rent them and its a good way to get around.

Nyhaven is where the coloured houses are - where most of the tourists head for. The palaces are good to visit - make sure you catch the chaging of the guard - Danish soliders are like toy soliders - its very nice. The crown jewels are good, Little Mermaid, obviously, but she is tiny and about 8ft from the shore - I was expecting something much bigger and a way out in the water.

Tivoli gardens - but to be honest we werent that bothered about them - there splenty of other stuff to see in 4 days.

Loads of places to eat, drink, some expensive but not all - move away from the main streets and food/drinks get cheaper.

We loved it.

Hi Al

Thank you! Very helpful, great to hear a good review. I’ve also spoken to a couple of people at work who’ve been. Seems universally well liked. So we’ve booked! Hotel isn’t far from your Meatpacking district.

Need to put the itinerary together now.

A visit to the Resistance museum is good and very thought provoking. Thumbs Up

Don’t bother with the Mermaid.

Tivoli gardens have a sky carousel that’s worth doing. Scary but fun.

I was in Copenhagen a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely love the place and people.
Especially liking the work ethic, of leaving the office at lunchtime, stripping down to their underwear or bikinis and enjoying the good weather.
Thinking it should be encouraged.

Very Happy

Lots of nice and or interesting places stuff to do, google is a brilliant place to get an idea.

I like the botanic garden, Nyhavn, Christiania Free city and the ZOO with Panda bears for something quiet, there's too much too see the majority in a few days - or simply walk the length of the pedestrian street will take you past hundreds of shops, Nyhavn and more - tons of atmosphere. Look left for all the bikes Idea
Please try the street food Danish Hot dog with everything, have two, both a red and a fried, sold from wee trolleys called Pølsevogne.

If you are near to the old meat packing district then you will find that it is now a hip restaurant place. If you eat meat and want a truly meaty experience then go to WARPIGS. The food is meat and it is all very good. A bit unique. If you want to dine your lady in an exclusive way at an affordable price then get a taxi to 59 Grade near to the navy barracks on Christianhaven. It is an old building with an amazing interior and amazing food. As good as a Michelin star establishment.

If you fancy something quirky then near to the mermaid is some old navy stone barracks. One of them is now a gourmets food and wine shop. You can buy a bottle of wine and some bread and cheese etc and instead of taking it home, eat it in their seating area with a view right up the estuary and across to Sweden OR take it outside and through the fence and sit in the park under the trees and watch the tourists looking at the mermaid.

If you fancy something really different then there is a place across the river by the old ship building hangar, It is the old security gate house that is now a wine bar, but the best bit is that it has its own pontoon so you can go swimming in the harbour. Its a unique experience.

My top advice is to get a bike and just go riding out, its the best possible way to enjoy Copenhagen, stay away from Newhaven though as it is just tourists and you will not see the real Copenhagen
Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂
