I just asked this on another thread! My bad!

So, my 2010 HSE D4 - it does not have Adaptive / AFS or cornering lights.

In high level terms, if I had 2 Adaptive replacement head-lights - what else would be needed to complete and upgrade please?

Bow down

Do the cornering light bulbs have to be H8 Halogens?
Can H8 LED's be fitted without generating any Canbus related error messages or other problems?

No they don't seem to have to be halogens as I have just swapped mine over to LEDS.

Two problems with LEDs, to get the same amount of light output and spread as a tungsten bulb the bulb part is physically to big to go through the bulb holder, also some (Cree which are rated the brightest and best) have black sleeves on the bulb part that look ugly inside the lamp. LED's are polarity sensitive, if the polarity is wrong they will not light up and the H8 plugs/sockets cannot be turned round.
If you want to increase light output fit H11's 8)

On the D3 they don't come on over around 25mph, don't know if D4 is the same.

The LED's I fitted today were these H8 ABD 12 LED 12V Foglight Bulb and are much brighter than the halogens I had in there. I increased the speed setting in the CCF so mine come on up to about 100KPH! The reflectors in the light units seem to be pretty focused on where the beam is pointing.

H8's are 35w, H11's are 55w and just need a little modification to fit and are available in 6000k that matches the same colour light output of xenon's. LED's with the same or greater output as H11'smay well fit depending on the design and would definitely be more practical than tungsten due to creating less heat and using less power. Thumbs Up

I have a pair of those and they will not fit through the hole in the reflector without modification which I was not prepared to do even though I took the reflector out, the bulb part is to large diameter.
Remember I have a D3.

Can you remember if these were a tight fit?
They are listed as 15mm wide and the LEDs I was looking at are 18mm

Its all a tight fit in there however the actually hole is huge as its the entire width of the base of the bulb as its a whole bayonet style fit, there seems to be plenty of room in the actual headlamp unit.

Not sure if the above is because I used a soldering iron to remove the fake dome that was in there tho! Smile

The ones I bought were these http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/H8-High-P...-Bulb.html the tight bit I found was getting the connector back on which was a mixture of put bulb in so far line connector back up, but there isn't enough space to actually connect it, then twist bulb in to place and then click connector home.

Managed to get the blanks out of my headlight units and fitted the LED's shown in a previous post.
The Cree LED's are yellow coloured but I think they look OK in situ.

I'm still awaiting the correct pins to be delivered so couldn't complete the install but I powered up the LED's on the bench and the colour should complement the xenons pretty well
Also note that the LED units I fitted were not polarity conscious?

Thanks for showing how to carry this out as there is no way I would have started melting my headlights without guidance from this forum Bow down
