So it begs the question, what happens if you use this incorrect C2 oil? According to LR It’s ok to top up with it if you can’t get C1. It’s ok for DPF vehicles according to Castrol.

Is it just that JLR haven’t specifically tested it in their engines?

Could it be that it’s aimed at later vehicles with DPF and Stop/Start engines? (Mine is not SS)

Main dealer can’t supply because they only have bulk.

It’s all very confusing!

In case you aren’t able to use the C1, occasionally you can use a C2 oil as per the owner manual (pag. 205)

My Dealer (rarely due to the Castrol oil LR costs) sell me the oil if I bring with me a can....

Well my manual is different to yours DGardel. Page 205 in mine is batteries.

P190 in mine has as follows. No mention of any C numbers!

I’m going with the C2. I’ll let you know if my engine goes up in a ball of fire!

SAPS..

ACEA C1
Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil with Lowest SAPS-Level, intended for use as catalyst compatible Oil at extended Drain Intervals in Vehicles with all Types of modern Aftertreatment Systems and High Performance Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines that are designed to be capable of using Low Viscosity Oils with a minimum HTHS Viscosity of 2.9 mPa*s

ACEA C2
Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil with Mid SAPS-Level, intended for use as catalyst compatible Oil at extended Drain Intervals in Vehicles with all Types of modern Aftertreatment Systems and High Performance Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines that are designed to be capable of using Low Viscosity Oils with a minimum HTHS Viscosity of 2.9 mPa*s

Having read quite alot about this, C1 is lower SAPS than the mid SAPS C2
SAPS stands for “sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur”. A low-SAPS motor oil is therefore an oil with a low proportion of sulphate ash, phosphorus and sulphur.
This translates as ' will block a DPF sooner'.

Best to stick with C1 is the advice.

Well it does a few decent fast long journeys, so hopefully won’t cause an issue.

Also, surely that only becomes an issue if the oil gets burned? My car hardly uses any oil at all. It was still at the almost full level when the Service due message came up.

C2 is what PSA advise. Being a PSA engine, I doubt C2 will cause any issues Thumbs Up

Another thought, wonder if Citroen/Peugeot have the same amount of 3.0 failures as LR... Shocked
