Since purchasing my vehicle earlier this year I've been intending to remove the side steps, as they're not good off road or on narrow Devon lanes. Finally got round to it this weekend, and noticed bubbling of the paint behind the brackets (3 each side). After scraping the loose paint off, this was the result:
Whilst it's not the end of the world, the zinc plating has been penetrated in some small areas, and given a couple more years would have been a lot worse. So if you've got side steps fitted, and intend to keep the vehicle for a few years, it may be worth taking them off and checking behind for similar corrosion. 2 coats of Smoothrite have sorted it on mine
If anyone's got any decent plastic sill covers I need a pair
And if anyone wants a pair of used side steps and pre-cut sill trims let me know. [/img]Previously:

Average condition, but some of the bolts that hold the steps to the brackets need replacing as they sheared on removal. Not a big job - just a case of unclipping the treads, but I need to do that before selling them. Unless someone wants to buy them in their current condition.
