Corrosion on my MY06 Discovery wheels... LRA blew me off! |
|
Hi all.. my Discovery 3 with 65000 km on the clock has corrosion on all 4 road wheels. My dealer, Australs in Brisbane put in claim with LRA and they knocked it back saying that the car had not been washed enough and it was caused by brake dust. The car is washed every second Saturday at the Hand Wash Cafe in brisbane along with my wife's Z4 BMW. The BMW is 2 years older than the Disco and has no corrosion on the wheels.
Anyhow, I rang customer care and told them that the car was washed every second week.. they rang back and now have knocked back the claim because the corrosion is caused by "external" matters.
So.. i haven't even driven the bloody thing on the beach. Anybody else had this problem?
Land Rover's attitude means that this is the last car they will ever sell me. They are simply running away from a problem that is caused by poor paint quality on the OEM wheels.
When it comes out of lease, i won't be replacing it.

I don't have corrosion of wheels, but do have UV deterioration of the plastic trim panel under the windscreen. It has turned grey and when touched, turns to powder. I was just rejected this as a warranty item as well.
It seems LR are happy if their vehicles last until the end of the 3 years and that's it. Not good enough!

Yes.. I think that for a "Premium Car" (their own words) they are poor in warranty. Their attitude is simply not good enough.. i ended up talking to some young kid at their call centre.
They have sold me their last car.. add your comments and experiences to my blog!
Cheers

I have noticed the same thing, but don't really take much notice of it.
Bit of overkill with the blog, good luck with your next new car brand Trust me, what could go wrong?

Yep. My MY08 has the beginnings of what your picture shows. My Mazda SP23 is older than the Disco and it doesn't have any problems, and like your situation I always wash both cars together, but I have taken mine on the sand....just like Landrover invited me to with a letter and DVD when I bought the car!! 2012 MY13 SDV6 SE D4 Ipanema Sand with Almond leather

ACCC says:
http://www.accc.gov.au/content/item.phtml?...efunds.pdf
How long do consumers’ statutory
rights apply?
Statutory rights are not limited to a set time
period. Instead, they apply for the amount of time
that is reasonable to expect, given the cost and
quality of the item.
This means a consumer may be entitled to a
remedy under their statutory rights after any
manufacturer’s voluntary or extended warranty has
expired.
For example, it is reasonable to expect that an
expensive television should not develop a serious
fault after 13 months of normal use. In this case,
the consumer could argue the item was not of
merchantable quality and ask for it to be repaired,
even if the manufacturer’s voluntary warranty had
expired.

Just a thought - A long time ago I spent some time in West Texas. The water there caused all kinds of corrosion on specific alloy metals that were totally unaffected at other regions of the US. It really ate through some very expensive refinery compressor radiators. Who knows what minerals and acids are in the water in Brisbane these days? There are a few car washes here in Perth that have red stains on the walls - indicative of high iron content in bore water. As Brisbane has been in drought, are car washes recycling water (and hence detergents even in the rinse water) or using some odd water source? I looked at the photo, that is not corrosion, it is contaminants on the surface of the wheel. Alloy wheel corrosion is a powder effect and white in colour, not black. It would also be seen as bubbling of the clear coat.
If you get some rubbing compound it can be removed, I have had exactly the same as have lot's of others. Have you ever put polish on the wheels and used proper approved alloy wheel cleaner.
To be honest I am not surprised LR won't cover it.

I got some flies stuck to my windscreen during the summer. Would they replace the glass? Would they eck as like!
As has been said above, that looks like brake dust to me, I also use Wonder Wheels which works a treat. Lloyd "Phat Face"

ahem....wonderwheels = brick cleaner? stuff. Can ment your centre caps if you're not careful.
HOWEVER, cough. Mr Muscle oven cleaner and a toothbrush will sort that out no problems. Welcome "Lola"
