Most cost effective option for Reversing Camera

The one thing I’m missing on my project D3 compared to my D4 is the reversing camera, sadly the car wasn’t spec’ed with Sat Nav so I have no screen to simply plug into.

I am currently debating either retro fitting a D4 screen or grafting in one of these into the cubby hole https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273630704318

I don’t need all the features of the cheap headunit as have the audio connectivity module and working Bluetooth on the factory radio.

What are people’s thoughts on the two options?

Are you saying you have retrofitted optical fibre?
That is required for the nav display.

I already have optical fibre in it, the original purchaser had the highline stereo Bluetooth module with steering wheel controls but just didn’t spec the Satnav/screen.

Fit a Garmin Nuvi in the space for for the Sat Nav screen using a D4 screen surround and then buy the wireless camera for it. Thats what I did. You can add multiple camera to the Garmin.

@Ivan how do you find the wireless just when I have looked at them in the past they have suffered with interference in the past.

Although at £130 for the camera alone I could get a D4 screen although appreciate I would get really good Sat Nav as well by adding the Garmin.

Have no problems at all with the wireless camera. Biggest issue I have is that the lense gets coated in c**p. But, that probably because I have it in the rear bumper just above the towing sockets.
I find the navigation with the Garmin far superior to LR's (wifes Freelander2 has LR sat nav).

As you already have a D4, a D4 display would be nice.
I assume you have an IID ? and a licence for the D3 VIN

You would need to get D3 metalwork frame and display surround ideally.

It would be interesting to know if there is wiring in place for the display.

I think the freelander nav is a slightly different system

Thanks I can understand what you mean about the getting dirty, I understand your point about the Nav although in my D4 I haven’t really had a problem with it even using it across Europe but I always tend to plan the route I am going to take before hand anyway and use the Sat Nav as help.

@PeteK yes the familiarity of the D4 screen does make it appealing, already have and IID and is licensed on the D3 used it to do the software upgrades already Very Happy

I’ve got the H Trim off already so easy enough to pop the head-unit out to see what is back there, may be a plan for the weekend as bike riding and heavy duty DIY is off the cards as I sliced my hand open last night Big Cry
