Hi everyone, any chance of help with a quick question please?
I want to get the removable towbar and electris fitted and have been quoted Euro1200, approx £1100 for the job by Landrover Grenoble.
What is the approx cost in the UK?
I would just call a dealer but my internet phone (orange france internet/phone/tele/ etc) wont dial the 08444 number that all the dealerships use. I could send an email but hoping some kind soul might let me know quicker here....
Thanks in advance.

Towbar can be got for under £200, as it is removable it is easy to fit yourself, as that is what it is designed for.
Electrics are no more than a couple of hours work even if you are not mechanically minded, it's essentially plug and go! cost around £80.00 from Nick @ Yeovil Land Rover.
Even for a dealer that price is a complete p s take

Thanks SJR, that was quick!
Price breakdown is Euro 628 for the towbar, Euro 249 for the electrics and Euro 350 to fit.......
Sounds cheaper to drive to UK (700k + ferry) or mail order maybe, ah well .
Mind you it cost me Euro212 (£190) for a new battery last week - wouldnt start in the mountains any more (-10 so not that cold really). Havent been up again since, so hoping that was the only reason for failing to start.....
Cheers
PS sorry for posting in wrong place......

I think I paid 200 euro for the towbar and 145 euro for the electrics but not sure if it was inclusive or exclusive tax.
I installed it myselves. The electrics come with a good installation manual. So I would say buy the parts and do it yourselves.
I bought mine at: http://www.jansenusedlaroparts.com/
I think they sent where ever you want.
Ask a quote from them and see were you want to buy it.
Tell them that a Dutch G4 owner send you so maybe next time I get a discount. Roel

You can find fitting instructions if you search on here
http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/spacer.jsp
Check with Nick at Yeovil LR for parts (The Large One) or normally plenty of removable towbars on fleabay
LR genuine electrics have all looms etc to fit...so just plug in behind LH light cluster (at least on RHD)
Takes 5 mins to click towbar into place
Takes about an hour to fit electrics (if you can use a screwdriver and follow destructions it's easy)
Computer may need to be updated at LR dealer to recognise electrics when hitched up (disables automatic action of rear PDC and off road height control) but that can be done at service.
Even with new parts you'll save half the cost
Good luck

Give Nick a try and also ebay often has a lot on there.
Electrics - £80 - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DISCOVERY-3-TWIN-TOW...240%3A1318
Towbars -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LANDROVER-DISCOVERY-...240%3A1318
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DISCOVERY-3-RANGE-RO...240%3A1318
When I bought mine I luckily found the electrics already in place so just had to buy the tow bar which was under £190. I certainly wouldn't pay more than £200 for the tow bar, and electrics seem to be around the £80 mark.
Even if you didn't want to fit them yourself you could pay a local garage an hours labour to do it and should be able to get it all fitted for 1/3rd of what Grenoble want!
Only thing you might have to get Landrover to do is update the software as I know when I put mine into reverse with the towbar attached it switches off PDC automatically but for saving 1200 Euros i'd live with the beeping! (or press the PDC off button!)

Thanks for all the suggestions and links guys - good stuff!
Looks like I'm gonna save myself some money and do it myself. Service in September but I dont think I will do any damage between now and then..... main reason is to put a bike carrier on the towball rather than tow things anyway!
I was gonna get some sidesteps and bars for the roof - can I fit those myself too?
Prices were ok value at 1.45 euros to the pound but at 1.12 its all getting a bit expensive - dont all cry for me at once now

Hi Nick
Thanks for that. I've sent you an email at work thru ebay without realising it was you (should have read Disco3newbie's post more closely !)
Also asked for a couple of other things but think the postage might be a bit steep (on the other, um, larger items...).........
Thanks for any help you can give me,
Cheers TDV6 HSE AUTO

I have just done exactly what you are looking to do. I bought a brand new, never used, removable towbar on ebay for £190. It takes about 30 seconds to fit - pull out red plug, push towbar very firmly up, turn key, fitted. I bought the electrics from Nick and TFC fitted them.
I bought the excellent Altera Strada bike rack from www.roofbox.co.uk . I used it for the first time this weekend and it is very impressive.

I'm fairly sure a few people, myself included, will be travelling to the South of France over the next few months - perhaps you could arrange a D3 courier enroute to a holiday destination?
Just a thought

Given the exchange rate of Euro to Pound, and the assumption that GrenobleLandy is a Euro earner, then I'm sure the relative cost of shipping will be reasonable. For example a 30cm x 30cm x 30cm package weighing 6kg costs £18 by 2 day European delivery. I am sure Nick will get a better price based on the volume he ships.

Euro earner would be nice.......... |

Thanks for the idea Craig. I'm going to be in the UK near Bristol on Friday so popping down to see Nick to get myself sorted. Looks like he will be able to post the bulkier bits I'm after (sidesteps - got a bit of a shopping list) for £20 +vat or so . Towbar is going in the suitcase!
Wish I was a euro earner Gaza, but watching my salary dwindle as the pound goes south......... Wife is french, from round here and I commute to the UK for work by air, so I'm afraid its getting a bit pricey - never mind though eh, at least the sun comes out when its supposed to and we get a bit of snow TDV6 HSE AUTO
