My vailant is now 5 years old. If it packs in I will buy another. Fit my self again and have it signed off and commissioned by my plumber again.
If buying at cost after a few years they are throw away.
Suppose I’m lucky I know a good plumber, to be fair. Fitting a boiler is a piece of . What I work with a domestic boiler doesn’t even come close.
Some plumbers don’t deserve to be employed in my opinion. There are an awful lot of chimps out there that arnt worth the paper there has certs are written on.
Steve You remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

I was charged £350 to have a flue extended 30” to clear a conservatory, took 1 1/2 hours, highest quote was £850 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

So for those that fit or maintain their own boilers what do you do when the boiler goes petong on a freezing New Year's eve with no plumbers or merchants available for a week or so.
Been there done that, but never again. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

I’ve had a boiler go on the blink over Christmas and New Year. It was inconvenient, but not life threatening. Cue a fire or colour gaz heater.
I tend to agree about over priced heating engineers. They are only interested in flogging a new boiler.
I had a new water jacket on a Rayburn, the installing engineer hadn’t put rust inhibitor in the water. I was quoted £1.8k. The final bill was over £2.2k. To say I wasn’t happy was an understatement. I’d have had a combi boiler put in instead of a repair, it would have been cheaper!

I just had a new Worcester Bosch boiler fitted, it was moved into a different room, all new radiators (17), all new cylinder and pipework plus the system was changed to a system boiler like they fit in hotels. £4300 all in.
