Have bought a set of (non-genuine) steps from LRParts. I’ve done plenty of car tinkering over the years (engine / gearbox changes, suspension etc.) so back myself to fit them. A few questions though:
Is it easy enough to do with the car on the ground (with suspension set as high as possible) or is it worth finding one of those rent-a-ramp places?
Anyone know what this tool (pictured) is called / where to get and whether it’s necessary for removing the plastic rivets?

Is it worth having some spare rivets to hand before starting?
Are the cutting guides on the reverse of the sill trim likely to be correct for a non-genuine kit?
Thanks!

Hi There’s a video on the Powerful UK website to show the process
Most are straight copies of the genuine product so should be an easy fit
Halfords do a pack of trim removal tools - the plastic ones may be better as they don’t scratch as easily but a flat bladed screwdriver with tape on the end can easily remove the clips - I think some are discarded so you could use them as the sparesMust stop buying shiny toys....

Thanks, that’s a useful video. Also mentioned the trim clip tool which I have ordered up on Amazon. Will be a nice weekend distraction from leftovers and rubbish TV!

I'd possibly buy a pack of m8x30 bolts, as the ones which came with my ebay steps wear really poor quality. The steps have been fine though at 18 months old.
Have plenty of WD40 ready too as some of the mounting holes on mine were pretty rusty and needed cleaning out with an m8 tap.2014 D4 XS

Job done. Couple of the brackets required a little “percussive adjustment” but overall all went together nicely. Cutting out the sill trims is a cinch with a multi-tool.
