Crank shaft broke! New engine time?

I’m not overly mechanically minded, but, after a major service 4 weeks ago including new prop shaft my 2015 D4 went pop and I gave it back to LR (it’s out of warranty) and I am told crank shaft has broken and new engine is the only solution. First estimate is £15k less £3k engine but back.

I know the Crank shaft failure is well documented, but what’s the cost of a new engine, and is it as simple as just that? That component has broke so whole thing needs replacing?

I'd save the £15k needed for a new engine and use it as a deposit on another car from another brand plus anything you can get for your car as it is.

You cant get NEW only rebuilt and LR are around the 6k mark now and about the same to fit if not a bit more . 2yr warranty on that! They are rebuilt just up the road from me and its a large part of they're business and they are a very large engine rebuilder of international repute ,however they're rebuilt units tend to be better than original engines

indeed if it has LR service history your dealer is your friend on this one as they need to approach LRCS .
My 65 plate with 67k miles was done FOC about 6 months ago . However it took 10 weeks and no courtesy car .

The vehicle has Full land rover service history, 70,000 miles.

Dealership is pushing for 100% LR contribution, there is no warranty.

I will hold out for later on my bigger opinion, but the dealership is just so unreliable and I have a proper wheeler dealer at the other end of the phone, whom just in the normal dealership way lies his way though everyday of the week, no call backs, ring you back in an hr with an update etc etc.

But I accept I need him now, so will just holding on for the ride.

If you have any finance on the car, have a look at using the lender to help.

Sorry to hear this Tony Sad

I do hope you can get a LR contribution, and I agree you must keep your dealer sweet and not take it out on them, even if they are just a bunch of 'yes' men in reality.

Its only done 70k, with full LR history, and you are an LR enthusiast, so they need to look after you.

Fingers crossed Tony.

new engine from LR

Interesting discussions, my LR4 is going through a similar process. would anyone know how long it takes to get a new engine from LR? I've heard anything from two or three days for a new engine to a month?

If the engine recon people are who I think they are, then things may not get any better!

Place I used to work at used their engines in quite a few Ivecos, some did not even make it out of the workshop.

ok fair enough. tbh if mine goes i think i would park it up and save up for one of Mike from MMP's TDV8 conversion as that would be a dream vehicle - manual overland tdv8 discovery.
whilst body was off you could future proof the chassis and body work and redo the tranmission at the same time!

but to have a good contact for a tdv6 rebuild at sensible money is always a nice backup should mine go bang
