Crank snapped again
Evening all happy new year,
looking for some advice befor I go crazy lol cranked snapped last year got a reconditioned crank with right size bearings to suite what the machine company said the crank needed, a so called friend fitted the crank and bearings for me and the rest of engine got put back together. Engine started first time like a dream, was taking a steady drive and engine started making a horrible knocking noise so wasn’t taking any chance got car recovered..
Over the past week iv taken engine out spun it over and stripped sump and extension sump off to find the crank has snapped again
Hoping someone can help me why has this crank now snapped is there a problem with something else gearbox or something

Iv managed to get a new block with crank in to rebuild the engine I’m just worried if the gear box could be causing it

Is this a brand new block and crank you have purchased?

He’s meant to be a machanic and thinks he knows everything so I trusted what he’s says lol a few people have told me you never change a snapped crank because it bends the pillar blocks 🤔

understand that....those sizes would be there whether the the crank is bent or not...my point was ,,,,,,is the crank straight.....I think gauging would tell...……...feel for you...

I can’t remember we’re i have read it about faulty gearboxes causing the cranks to snap just didn’t want to spend loads of money on rebuilding the engine and it happening again struggle like a idiot getting the engine out without taking the body off 😂

I still shudder at my only full rebuild under the "watchful eye" of a trained mechanic. He specifically told me it was ok to re-use the bolts for the big-ends. It threw a rod as I was going up the M63 Barton Bridge … which was in the days before it got widened to have a proper hard-shoulder. Not a pleasant experience with nowhere safe to stop.

I have rebuilt a few engines that have snapped the cranks, and the only way we reused the block was to get them line bored I think was the wording but this was on commercial vehicles a long time ago lol , but out of curiosity did you change the oil pump as well ?
