Hi Jay,

Just reading this thread as my D3 has a similar problem - basically it takes about 7 seconds of cranking after its been switched off a while to start.

Did the new battery cure the problem?

Thanks
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

It seemed to cure it for a bit, but normal (occasional) poor cranking performance has now returned!

Thanks for following up on this, because it has prompted me to provide update for this thread for others, which I will try and do in more detail within the next 48 hrs.

Basically however, it seems as though this problem isn't as simple as a under par battery.

Spend so far £115

Mine is booked in for this coming Friday. Others have agreed it will be an injector fault so I am hoping its just one (at £250 each)!! I'll post an update once its fixed.

Hi Adrian sounds like starter motor to me,te coil and amateur tend to burn from either running the starter for longer or the starter pulley getting stuck in the engine and rotates with it instead of pulling back after cracking the engine

DISCO 3 CRANK BUT WONT START NO CODES

DISCO 3 CRANK BUT WONT START NO CODES Report post

Please can someone help on this:

my hp fuel pump had a bad leak from the pcv valve and stopped the car dead whilst i was doing 70 mph on the motor way, so i replaced with a brand new unit.

i have checked and changed the following:

new fuel filter
new relays in the engine bay junction box - all fuses checked and ok
new front cam belt
new fuel pump cam belt
new alternator
new injector copper washers - injectors had what felt like some fine grit paste on the shafts? not metal filings tho from the hpp pump like other issues ive heard of happening

data logged the sensors for the fuel and got the following

ignition only = fuel schrader valve = 0.3 bar which is ok

ignition only = high pressure fuel rail sensor = 50 psi ok
CRANKING READING ON THIS SENSOR IS 6000 PSI ???

THE CAR WILL STILL NOT START AND NO SMOKE IS COMING OUT THE BACK OF THE CAR AT ALL OR SMELL

Firstly I would check for voltage drainage this can be caused by the starter motor or the alternator,I would also check your glow plugs are ok as my old D3 started to not want to start in the cold but these can become seized and possibly snap , I purchased a bas heater controller easy to fit and warmed the car up as well , I did eventually change the glow plugs, but back to your battery drainage after you start up how long a journey are you covering to fully charge battery?

Appreciate it all seems a bit desperate but as you've posted this all over the place there is a danger you'll get responses spread about too.

Suggest you start a new thread and you'll get all your answers in one place!

Per the manual below - Fuel rail Pressure must be 150bar or 2175psi to start so that seems ok. Given rail pressures are ok and there is no white smoke I suggest the injectors are not being energised or there is a message the ECM is getting from somewhere saying the conditions are not right for the engine to start. I would try to reset the ECU.
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/reset-ecu-h...75198.html

EXERPT FROM MANUAL
Engine Starting
During starting, the fuel rail pressure must be at least 150 bar. Should the pressure be below this figure, the injectors will
not operate, resulting in the vehicle not starting.
Engine Stopped
To stop the engine the ECM stops energising the piezo actuators, therefore, no fuel is injected and the engine speed
drops to zero.

Blackvogue
did you to try to crank the engine while the injector plugs off
I guess that's when it will show the trouble codes

Am having the same issues as you and now waiting for a different diag tool thats capable of doing a reset as am being told.

ISTR reading in another post that irreparable damage can be done to the injectors by turning the engine while the injector electrical plug is disconnected Big Cry
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
