Hi, this problem has just happened to me too. LR have offered 20% towards the total cost of £15k (not including labour) which we are not happy about. Did anyone have better luck and is it worth going down the legal route?

thanks for replying! It is nearly 7 years old but has only done 55k so very low mileage. I know there seems to be lots of failed engines but I want to know if anyone has been successful in getting LR to cough up!!

Same age as mine and mine's at 48k so there's is no safety in low mileage. Sad

I would like to see that succeed Thumbs Up ...but don't hold out much hope anything beyond 6 years old tbh and also on latent (inherent) defects..... as the 'defect' is sporadic, not batched or endemic.

Must admit I’m getting a bit nervous, seen two 14 plate D4’s posted elsewhere on Thursday, both with Crank failure.

Was at a garage yesterday getting my Defender mot tested. (Indy Jaguar specialist)

Talking with the owner about LR’s, and he told me he had a ‘free’ new engine from LR in his 09 plate D3. I don’t know any details about how he achieved this, but I know he wasn’t the original owner.

Spun bearings apparently.

We achieved a £12,500 contribution from the dealer and from JLR towards the new engine. I (a solicitor) drafted the pleadings with junior counsel. The key is to press for pre-action disclosure of the precise frequency of this latent defect. Keep pressing. Make DPA requests (as set out in the suite of documents) and, if necessary consider (with legal advice) making an application for pre-action disclosure.

Disclosure of failure rates would make very interesting reading. Thumbs Up

I imagine it would be worth £12500 for JLR to avoid making that disclosure
