Cricket noise

My MY07 HSE TDV6 has an intermittent noise that sounds a bit like a cricket, ie a short rasping sound that sometimes lasts for a second and sometimes a bit longer.

It is not road speed or engine speed dependant and not affected by braking either. I can't find a way to cause it to happen. I also can't locate it, ie front/back/left/right.

Apart from a dousing of insect spray does anyone have any suggestions? What is it or how to diagnose it?

Thanks guys.

I had a very similar noise that was driving me nuts, it was found to be a loose clip on some cables in the roof lining, beware if you don't find it you could start hearing voices and buying torches Laughing

Mine was jst above my head when driving, like a soft sounding buzzing bee, then would stop then start, then stop, then start Sad
