cross over pipe failure years?

cross over pipe failure years?

any idea what years these fail on, ive got a 2016 with a small exhaust leak from the small turbo side, looked like egr but on closer inspection could be cross over pipe, but more likely the gasket from what i can see, does not look to be coming from the cross over pipe but until i get some more stuff off i wont be able to tell.

it had a new turbo at 20k under warranty just wondering if the have not tightened it up properly or something at this side as they did cock up some bolts on the turbo its self (wrong thread length so not properly tight), i imagine they will have removed it for the turbo swap as they had the body off.

just wondered if there's a year the cross pipes were cured? as above dont think it is but of someone knows a year it was sorted would be helpful.

update its the egr pipe,

Had a really useful chat with JAS landrover at york who were extremely helpful,

They have quite a wait at the moment even just to inspect and diagnose, but and they were also surprised that it would be cross over pipe, but suggested the egr pips can split.

i managed to get some heat shields off and start it up you can feel gasses leaking from the egr pipe.

update

it had a turbo under warranty, body off job when i removed the heat proof sheath off the egr pipe it appears someone may have damaged it when the body's been off,

hence its untimely failure, its right next to the steering rod so likely trying to remove/refit that they have used it to pry on ?

To be fair, all the crossover pipes look like that when they fail.

I dont think the dealer is to blame here, other than it should have been checked while the body was off Thumbs Up

You probably be right, perhaps it is just an unlucky failure, wonder why they go? Its a 2016 with 60k
Interestingly this is a different part number to the earlier engines.

im just sour my dealer has got rid of all its nice staff in service Laughing

To be fair ive ordered the pipe gaskets and bolts off them, the chap in parts was very good, all supposed to be in tomorrow at 9am Thumbs Up

sorry to be clear this is not the cross over pipe, this is the egr pipe from the manifold to the egr its self, do you mean when they fail they look the same as this?

tricky to get to but much easier with upper arm out of way, and a million heat shield plus the steering rod.

was advised to heat the bolts (especially the ones into the manifold) so got them red hot and carefully removed them thankfully nothing sheared! Bow down

one into the egr head just rounded so welded a nut on then that came out, other side was less rusty and came out fine?

really bad access but at least its all out,

will get a pic of the new stuff when its in.

Any idea what torques the bolts are supposed to be cant be much as they are only m6

its all out cleaned and threads cleaned out ready for new part.

I think thats a well known failure spot on the EGR pipe. Mine went there too, albeit a 2010 car with over 100k miles. i think there is a clip or something that rubs through the pipe.

good info that, there is a stainless clip that holds some heat proof webbing on the pipe, i bet that is the issue...

@ swansty i think your dead on, ive picked up the bits and the new pipe i got actually had a small dint inside it where the clip was placed, i imagine thousands of heat cycles of this expanding etc wares through the pipe,

ive slacked the clip off slightly on the new one so it has room to expand and contract Thumbs Up
