So is the entire hospitality sector going to replace their glassware before the end of the week? I think not.

Does anyone, other than those who are the most likely about to expire, care, I think not.

I like the quote

Labour MP Angela Eagle said it was a "pathetic" attempt to "weaponise nostalgia".

But the European Commission has rejected the idea that EU rules stopped the UK from having the crown stamp on glasses as well.

A spokesperson told us: "EU law does not prevent markings from being placed on products, so long as it does not overlap or be confused with the CE mark."

For those of us who work in engineering, regressing to Imperial would be awful.

The EU did not stop a crown mark on a beer glass so just another piece of brexiteers BS

My question would be, does a crown mark improve the quality and taste of the beer in the glass? If not what is the point of the crown mark?

As for bringing back a full range of imperial weights and measures to the U.K. I would suggest asking anyone under 30 what Oz, lb and cwt means let alone the connection between them.

Can anyone imagine the outcry of petrol/diesel at £8+/gall?

It’s an age thing . I have never got out of the way of converting metric to imperial. Let’s hope there’s not a movement to go back to imperial units as when it switched it cost us a fortune much like decimalisation.Think there’s a lot of sad people on these islands who can’t get over the loss of the empire and want to hark back to the good old days. There weren’t any! Does it matter what system you use as long as you get the measurements correct? Don’t get me started on beer glasses and crowns stamped on them. My interest is not the cosmetics but what it holds!
Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

Next you’ll be wanting steam trains, Dreadnoughts, biplanes, mounted cavalry, cholera and typhus back. Why not add in pre decimalisation money and child labour?

This is the stupidest announcement of many stupid announcements. It just confirms the there are no benefits of Brexit and all it was about was regressing to the past. Rolling Eyes

I can lend you a pair of jackdaws that send their young tumbling down into one of my (thankfully unused) fireplaces with some regulatory. They bring an impressive amount of debris down with them each time.

There are only three countries that use non-metric and of those, the Yanks actually do use metric they just convert it to US Customary system.

And for those that remind us that the UK uses Imperial measurements still in some circumstances, they are all based on the metric equivalent (thanks to the Weights and Measures Act) 1985.
