Cruise Control out of order... |
|
After a month and 3.000km (Would be around 2.000 miles) in the capable hands of my wife, our disco 3 has its first failure : Cruise Control...
It seems that it does'nt want to set on again...
It is more a niggle than a real failure and maybe switching the car back on tomorrow will cure it, but still...
In a way, I am proud now ! I DO have a Land Rover !! After all this time without any problems, I am finally convinced that I did not buy anything else but a Landy... (Let's touch wood just in case it transforms in an habbit...)

Gurvan, have you seen my thread about all this?
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=798
I would be interested if you can ask your wife if she waited for the 'bong' sorry, but its the only word I could think of, before she started the car.
One of the first units to fail if the car is started before the bong and full screen is the cruise control.

Yes... I did read that thread and my wife told me that she waited for the "Bong"... It only happened today and she'll see with a dealer after the week-end if there is something specific to be checked...
Might be a freak thing and maybe, after a restart tomorrow, it will be "cleared"...
Just have to wait and see tomorrow...

Gurvan, ask her to wait for at least 10 seconds after the bong with the ignition set to just before starting up. Once all the dials read and the centre LCD reads normal, then fire up the car, I would think she will be able to drive perfectly OK and not need to go to the dealer. Please let me know the result.

Great, if it works my theory is correct and I can set up an issue with LR on Monday.

Still, it might be interesting to try out the test-book at the dealership in order to make sure, even if the cruise functions again, that there was no other issues with it specifically...
I'll see what info I can get from Senegal even thiugh my wife is back in France...

I am certain that if she started the car now from a fresh start with the 10 second delay it would work. If it does, the defect should still be recorded in Testbook anyway. All my faults I deliberately caused were. Before she gets the garage to reset it, please ask her to try, it will answer so many problems I am sure.

She will try your solution... (Actually, I am going to send her the link to that thread so that she can work on her english language skills... )
Tommorow, she'll be driving on an highway back to Paris and I am quite sure that she will try out the cruise control...

My wife with whom I am talking right now using SKYPE, is telling me that the cruise control had been working erratically for a while... Sometimes when setting on the cruise control, it would keep on accelerating until my wife switches it off again...
She will try out your solution tomorrow...

Seems everything is okay today... |
|
Hello Brian,
My wife sent me an email confirming that everything worked okay this morning after she started the car waiting just a little bit more after she heard the "bong"...
You REALLY might be on to something...
Thanks !

Gurvan, I have worked on this for some time now with friends and a dealer. We all get the same answer. The Range Rover I have does the same and apparently the dealer said the RRS does also.
I am completely convinced that 90% of the errors are from this source now.
Please thank your wife for her help and patience in this.
